I read so many mangas that talk about people confessing their love. But I have yet to see it or heard about it or even consider it. Don't most people just get into a conversation and somewhere during the middle or end asks for something like a date or something.
Does this happen in japan only or something?

It probably has more to do with romanticizing the story because it would probably seem a bit boring to some readers if a date just occurred through casual conversation. As far as younger teens though it sometimes confessing and not just casual conversation (though not seen/heard often I guess). It just seems to make for a story that could last since just getting a date via normal conversation would shorten the premise of many a romance since usually about half the entire manga is dedicated to the lead working up the courage to confess to the other person.

When I was in middle school or thereabouts it was popular to give letters of confession of sorts. It was more like a little note that said something like:
I like you. Do you like me?
Yes
No
The recipient was meant to circle or check one and give the letter back. That's about the closest thing I've encountered. Ah, it was so simple back then.

When I was in middle school a girl would occasionally walk up to a boy and say that her friend liked him, then indicate the friend, who's at a safe, secure distance, I guess. It seemed a little like teasing, though, of both the boy and the girl in question...

That sounds like the ideal way to do things.

Haha, yeah we'd get that too. Confession through a proxy because someone is too shy to do it themselves.

Yeah, I kind of wish we could still do things like that. A lot easier than trying to divine the feelings from those crazy ass women before you can decide to make a move or not.

I confessed to my current gf... or atleast I gave up trying to hide the fact that I liked her... I am a lazy guy and putting up an act like that was hard... especially everytime she would look at me or smile at me... Hey in the end it worked out... you should not hide feelings tho... b honest with the ppl around you

Nope....never in my life.... it usually sorta happens naturally. I can't imagine myself doing that.... I hate cheese and confessing is as cheesy as they come.
I've had some girls come over and say they like me
(they must've been blind)
But most of the time I just wake up in the morning and think to myself , "Damn, she looked better at night" or "How the hell did that get in my bed!"

Once when I was a kid, a classmate's mum came up to me and said "my daughter really likes you"....

In my experience, confession never really happens, because people are just to forward about these things. It's like dating is just what you do. I hate it. If it's really like that in Japan, I'd like to move there.
