I, most of the time, do need good art. But thats not always the case. And, I'm very sure that I'm not a picky reader. I read anything but most shoujo, and smut[and everything beyond that].

I think I'm fairly picky. I almost never pick up a shoujo cause the artwork turns me off and characters tend to annoy me. Ecchi turns me away cause it detracts from the story for me. And I usually go for romance. Once I do pick it up I will not stop until I finish it even if it begins to worsen.

I'm picky, in terms of what I like. I generally give a lot of things a try, usually reading the first chapter and discarding it if I don't like it at all. Nowadays, I'm getting very picky about the artwork. I used to just read anything as long as the story was good; now, I'm sick of trying to "decode" the images.
I can easily find faults in a manga and am apt to criticize most of the ones I read, but this doesn't mean I wholly dislike them.

I'm picky sometimes, especially when it comes to shounen manga *shrugs* Don't really know why.
For me, the art AND plot has to be up to my standards, and if I read the first chapter, and it's boring, i drop it.

Extremely picky.

If the art isn't something I can really appreciate after the first two pages... its out. And I usually give it a bad rating.

I know I am XD !

MUST

#1: Good art.
#2: Good plot.
#3: Year 2000+ (...iunno, i just get this bleh feeling that the art would be crappy if it's in the 1990's or below. which, most of the time, is true. >__<)

^ #1 is a VERY big must.. since I judge most mangas by their covers. horrible, I know. : D

EDIT: Forgot a very important #4: Can't be yaoi, yuri, hentai, shounen/shoujo ai, or ecchi. You know, all those genres that fall into the "adult" category.
I'd prefer to stay away from smut and gender benders, too. ;-;

What else, what else..
And mecha and horror and all those scary stuff isn't really me, either. ._.

Is it just me or is it only those that focus on shoujo that are picky when it comes to art.

I read everything but my main focus isn't shoujo.
To me I'm never turned off by art. Good art can make me like the series more when I start reading it though.

I wouldn't say I'm too picky when chosing what to read but I what do know is that I've become alot more picky on chosing since I started reading manga.

I'm not all that picky in terms of what I read. If the series is short, I might even trudge through an entire series even if it's not my thing. My biggest restriction is my wallet because I tend to buy what I read online; otherwise I would read a lot more.

Art for me is not such a big deal. Out of curiosity, I was wondering what do some people who think that high quality art is important think about series where the art is deliberately bad to give it a specific feel (for example, certain types of comedy manga)?

If it makes me laugh, I tend to like the series (I'm a fan of romantic comedies, even if corny). I also like series which use a lot of factual information (e.g., some historical, medical). I don't like adult types all that much, but if I think the series is well thought out, I'll probably finish it.

I'll write some related points on the elitist thread:

As long as I can follow what's going on...but I need a decent enough quality of art and story
