Like the topic stated, what's the difference between 'mature' and 'adult' in the genre section?

didn't we went thought that before?

http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?page=3&tid= 645

there will be some adjustment according to Manick

edit:
Btw since topic on genres is brought up. Maybe get rid of tragedy, to narrow the genres, if there is some extreme cases it should be just put in the description thatís all there arenít that many series that are so depressing besides what depressing to one is not depressing to other, imo drama (maybe human drama?) is just fine. tragedy and drama is all the same, since the other meaning of drama is taken by "slice of life" label anyway.

Smut could either have ďnonsensical sexĒ as label or be gone too, since it falls into adult category; itís just degree of explicitness.

Maybe it would be interesting to add other categories later on that have to do with content, like say music manga or gangster manga etc.

------------------------

In case you were asking in general and not about the site definitions, then mature to me is more of mental state, while adult has to do with age.

You could say smut is english, ecchi is japanese <_< Smut is maybe a bit more porny or rather you mostly see shoujo stories with sex in them defined as smut. Osakabe Mashin is perfect example of an author with smut, then again japanese don't consider it too offensive; they qualify such stories as for "junior and senior high school students". Like i said before it's just a degree of explicitness. Soft core, in a sense.

Some times smut is used to define a yaoi story that has no plot just lots of sex, but that's not extremely accurate.

Smut is just very english way to say "vulgar or indecent" exactly same as ecchi to japanese

Last time I went to China, perverted stuff such as Ecchi and Smut was not allowed to be given to Students.......I don't think Japan and China is that different....but why do they allow it in Japan?

China is waaaay different that Japan. Possessing porn and visiting porn sites can lead you to jail time in China. Compare to Japan it's night and day. For one China went through the whole rearrangement of their moral values in the beginning of the Communistic regime. I think I mentioned it before but Japan never had that, the only concern Japan had when it started to "westernizes" was not to look ďbarbarianĒ (hence the blur/mosaic/etc.). Japanese have fertility festival where girls climb up on phallic shaped wooden objects, they also have shrines devoted to phallus.

Japan has very different moral standards than say.... USA (Europe also has different moral standards than USA and than Japan, but itís more apparent if you compare USA and japan) For instance Japanese are far more concern about violence in games than about sex in games, while in USA itís reversed. For Japanese sex is just human nature, just a part of a process, no biggy. You also could say that itís the result of a different religion as well, but really itís just a cultural thing. Not all cultures function the same, that should be obvious, right? Itís pointless to put your own standards on something that doesnít follow them to begin with.

edit: I also think that Japanese are more honest about their target audience, because teenagers are exactly the age group to be interested in sex; they just start to explore it.

Unless you have personally been there, I consider your information to be invalid. No offense of course, but all information I gather has to be from a primary source. As far as I know from articles and cousins studying in Japan, Japan is quite conservative.

You are kidding right? Because that argument is funny to say the least

Letís seeÖ..

Historical fact #1: Prior china turned communistic homosexuality was accepted as normality especially among people working in theaters

Historical fact #2 China had banned google from their servers, reason: access to immoral sites and also blocked all the major porn sites ( I thought that was common knowledge)

Fact # 3
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C5%8Dnen_Matsuri

also another fertility festival

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanamara_Matsuri

Fact #4 (WARNING for people who don't wish to see big stone phallus <__<)
http://www.japanvisitor.com/images/content_images/japan-image -362.jpg

oh yes, lets not forget about all those erotic Ukiyo-e, esp Shunga, no censoring there

note: I didnít say that people are having sex in the open there, but they donít have same views about it as you.

Wow. I knew the Japanese were more open about sex, but I didn't knew they had fertility festivals. Interesting...

Historical Fact #1 and #2 are irrelevant to our discussion. Historical fact #3 is also considered irrelevant because as we all know, Wikipedia can be changed at anytime by a registered user. *NOT THAT I DO IT*

The only relevant fact is #4, however, as we know many cultures have in the past viewed sex as part of human nature. The fact that they celebrate this does not imply Japanese parents allow their kids to read Ecchi and Smut manga.

Go google both terms you find plenty material online.. unless of course you think whole internet is working against you. As for ecchi i would send you to some Japanese online stores that sell manga and have age categories .... but somehow i think it would be pointless

in the end ecchi == smut == naughty == pervy

You realise that if what you said is true, then my work load would increase by 3 fold? I would've to contact the committee and then the administrations and write a paper about this and sent it to the City?
