American-style cartoon or not, it follows anime style. I LOVE IT! the best thing that has come out of american cartoons yet!


They used believe it coz the animation fits. As in...the movement for the mouth which say "Dattebayo" fits with when it says "Believe it" I read this somewhere...forgot where though >_>

i hate new cartoons x.x

I think the same will be said about every generation especially when we only recall the shows we like. Whereas in the mean time, a bunch of crappier shows come up, but are inspirational to the younger generation. The process seems to keep going on.

currently the two cartoons on my radar are billy and mandy and chowder, those are the only two that has the same feel as the golden age of cartoon network...man do i miss dexter and johnny bravo. other great shows were hey arnold and the weekenders.

*sigh* I'm never going to forget all those awesome mornings I spent eating breakfast in elementry school. I always watched Mike, Lu and Og and/or the Sonic TV show. They were so awesome. And I still remember Lu's turtle was named Lancelot. :3

I've seen Kappa Mikey. I think it's gold. The premise is some poor japanophile ends up the star on a sentai show. That's just the setup though since it follows Mikey and the rest of the cast about their day in Japan. It's basically a fish out of water story. Maybe I only find it hilarious because Mikey could be any one of us if we were offered a part on our favorite sentai show. And yes, Avatar is win.

Onto another thought, I don't think nostalgia is the reason why we think the old cartoons we used to watch were good. Many of them actually were good. One exception I can think of that I used to love as a kid, but probably wouldn't be caught dead watching now would be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Its just so wrong on nearly every level. The new Ninja Turtles cartoon on the other hand, is just right however. It atleast skims the original stories from the comics. Frankly, skimming is about as close as they can get, I think. Those comics were freaking wild.

I saw anime beat cartoon with a stick.

Thats why cartoons are sucking balls now. Other than that there are exceptionally few good cartoons out there.

The audience for most American cartoons is children under the age of 13. That means that the themes and language is going to be focused on that age group.

However, there are some pretty good contemporary American toons. Johnny Test comes to mind, as does The Batman and Teen Titans.

The animation styles are definitely changing too. Most are done on high grade animation software, such as Combustion or 3DS Max. So, while the overall image quality is better, it becomes lifeless in a way, unlike in Anime, where I believe(but could be mistaken) that they use more hand drawn cels and images.

Also, the main focus of American cartoons/animation is motion. Oftentimes, in Anime, motion is subservient to the overall aesthetics of the frame/scene.

I don't thing new american cartoon are that bad... I liked Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. I like american cartoon better for the fantasy-like universe and anime for the most close-to-real... Also from children's cartoon I like Courage the Couwardly Dog and Dexter's Laboratory.

The last good cartoon series I saw was TFO and Invader Zim (Im a big Jhonen Vasquez fan). I miss all the good cartoons I grew up with like Looney Toons, Rocko's Modern Life, Tom and Jerry, etc. Hell, the only reason I like TFO is for the jokes that older viewers would get. In fact I think there was a TFO episode that referenced old cartoons and the violence in them, which was hilarious.

It just kills when I walk past my step-brothers room and he is watching Sponge-Bob and laughing away. Because its not funny. Now if I want to watch my favorite cartoons I have to tune in to Boomerang...and for some reason I find that depressing.

American cartoons could be better if most of them actually had a main plot or just a plot. There is nothing that really keeps the audience wanting more since it's just episode by episode. I think the reason why Avatar did so well was because it had an overall plot.
