Naedoko Kanoko from Warau Kanoko-sama All heroine by Tsukuba Sakura
Basically, the non-generic heroine. (Generic meaning crybaby, damsel in distress, tends to misunderstand the situation quickly, idiot, etc)

Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket is probably the best. Not because she's the one I like the most(she isn't).
To explain, there's probably three types of love stories[for my purposes]. Where people are either equals and/or they come together from attraction and cause they get along. Secondly, where some really perfect boy decides to pursue some girl for no reason, who isn't his equal, and hasn't really done anything(not really a problem, I think it works better if they don't over emphasize how great the guy is). And thirdly, where the person seems to deserve/earn others interest because karmically they are good or they have qualities that are admirable well before anyone liked her, so it was believable that people could like her. Tohru is probably one of the earliest ones that had the girl be very admirable before anyone likes her, though she can be almost sickeningly sweet(rarely) and Mary Sue like(not more than the average character). I think it's old enough and recent enough to be influential.
From memory I really like Sawako from Kimi ni Todoke, Kurosaki Mafuyu from Oresama Teacher , and Kawai Maria from Akuma to Love Song. Though Oresama teacher isn't really a romance manga, so if it's just that it might not count.

Ughhh most of my favourite femmes come from josei. Aside from that, I don't think most posters know what heroines are, as I see male and side characters listed haha.
Definitely: Sarasa from Basara Setsu from Hiiro no Isu Sakura from Kirai Mei from Suki-tte Ii na yo

Maria from Akuma to Love Song, Kaya from Midnight Secretary, Tsubasa from Tokyo Crazy Paradise, Kyoko from Skip Beat, and Kanoko from Warau Kanoko-sama and its sequel Koi dano Ai dano.
Haha, all the strong character leads. <3
