Okay we all have our hobbies for some of us it reading novels, manga, magazines etc. But in regards to manga I am personally find more and more of the story lines to be a little lacking. For instance my personal experience with reading the end of Love Monster I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. It just seems the could have been a little bit more. Sure it started out as a cute story but is just went flat at the end. I am finding more and more stories seem to be going that way. Granted there those old rare stand bys that I will re-read and gain some enjoyment from reading them again
Even in the yaoi genre the stories seem to more about hardcore sex instead of character development. Gravitation was a rare story in which we could a good look into the characters pysche. Also, (am I apologize but I have to say it), there are some series that just should not be made into a dj yaoi, for instance Bleach, Naruto and most definitely DeathNote.

To be completely fair I understand the life of a Manga author is not an easy one and maybe content get pushed aside for deadline demands.

This is just my opinion I am not trying to tick anyone off. Please feel free to respond and let me know how you feel.

As years go by, the more manga its population becomes.

Thus, originality and creativity or just a simple "good read" decrease in numbers because most of the good parts have been used already.

To come up with something entirely original would be a bit difficult. That's why now, we have cliches.

Kind of sad.

This seems to be happening to a lot of mangas. That's why good ones should be well respected. Or they just keep going on and on in a pointless effort to make more money..

Even if there aren't so many refreshing manga lately, there are still some gems among the rocks. For me that is enough to keep me reading.

Having high expectations might have something to do too. I try to keep mine low, getting them too high leads to dissapointment, and then you just can't see it with the same eyes.

Just my words.

Personally, I don't really care if a manga is cliche or not as long as it can keep me entertained since as tsu said, I also keep my expectations low...though I still have standards.

My problem comes to how a mangaka ends their series, which has been pretty bad as of late (Mx0, School Rumble... roll eyes )

It's not about whether manga series have been increasing lately or not, more like that your standards have grown throughout reading several/countless of manga series. Naruto was my first anime/manga. And it was the best back then! eek

I would give it a 10/10, now only a 8/10 which is still alot for some. But that just proves that by reading other series, I found out that there was a wide array of genres/plotlines/quality. Because of that manga enrichment, my standards have lifted way up. But that might be only in my case. smile wink grin

No.... I have 60+ manga on my complete list and about 270 on reading list.... and each week I find new interesting manga to read by reading other peoples "looking for ...." threads. You also only mentioned 1 Shoujo manga and then some yaoi dj, maybe you just need to broaden your horizons when it comes to manga... smile

Yeah.
I think it's just depends on what you're looking for.
Even though real originality is hard to find these days, you can't deny the fact that there are some good mangas out there. Too high standards are a pain.

Well, I think it's pretty unfair to say such a thing. Not all manga are masterpiece of course, but there are some new that are good and original, you just need to not just read the most popular and cliché ones.
I could be wrong, but to me Love Monster is just your classic ultra cliché shoujo with a weak heroine and an incredible handsome man that he's madly in love with her, despite the fact that she just complain all the time, so whichever it could be ended it's just your average story.
Maybe you're just growing up and you need to upgrade your range of interest, I started to getting tired of shounen many years ago and even if I still find some of them good, I usually prefer stick with seinen. Maybe you could try to read josei now (tough I don't know your age so I can't say what it's more suited to you).

PS If you want some suggestions maybe you can try to open a thread in the "I'm looking for" section and ask for what you'd like in a manga.

I think Manga will evolve at some point, or branch out farther.

I suggest that if you find things like love monster or... idunno, hana yori dango, bleach, love hina, etc to be lacking in depth, that you may want to look into the more mature stories. The manga business model in Japan is highly scaled to allow people to move on to other more adult stories when they grow older, and the translation community has matured to the point that seinen and josei works are translated at a frequency and speed that allows fans to read them regularly.

I agree.

The human race is always evolving as do manga; so eventually, someone will come up with something.

Some character pairings are questionable, however I don't see why not ^^, people like to see characters they recognise/read about, no series is particularly safe from dj artists.

Not to mention a certain surname in Death Note xD

As for the originality/cliché discussion, I still find new/interesting new manga released that are still in their first chapters/volumes so the future still seems bright.

co-sign......

now i've never read love monster, but i know of it, and if i recall it's a manga aimed at young girls.... like pre-highschool or 15 at oldest.....now i don't know how old you are, but manga's with that target audience aren't going to have deep and intricate plots, it's just like he said, the naruto's and d-gray mans and whatever the popular shoujo's are for that age group are....you can't expect much from them, because most readers that age don't care about stuff like that, they mainly care about the superficial stuff.....what the characters look like, how cute the guy is, or how hot the girl is.....or in terms of shounen, how unrealistically strong the character can become

so yeah, i just suggest you elevate your manga to at least manga's targeted towards mature teenagers if not adults......because it all makes since honestly, kids don't watch power rangers for the plot twists and storyline right?, they watch it for the fighting......so if you're into good stories, and intelligent plots you should read manga's targeted towards people like you, and not for children or young teens

Maybe, maybe not, I personally find new manga interesting and occasionally innovative.

We might see in the future a manga equivalent of Shakespeare.
