realistic male leads in slice of life manga

You know what I loved about Melancholy of Haruhi? Kyon. He was down to earth, calm, rational and yet he wasn't the "cool guy" character. You know, the kind who's distant and doesn't show any emotion.
I'm of course talking about the anime/novel version not the manga one. I would really like to see more series lead characters like him.

Also a warning: if you want to recommend shojo, be sure that the lead isn't the typical "cool guy" character that I mentioned earlier

There's one that comes to mind, a truly thought misleading title indeed. Seinen/slice of life genre.
