Well There are a lot of threads here about listing your favourite mangas and animes. But I didn't see any asking you to choose your absolute favourite. So you can only pick one which would it be? Yeah, i'm bored. Oh and join the narutards today.
My favourite anime: One Piece (fucking water 7 arc just put it over the top for me. emo to the max nothing in Naruto or Bleach gets that emotional especially since I liked Robin alot)
Favourite manga: Maison Ikkoku I was completely drawn into the romance between Yusaku and Kyoko and the last volume had me in tears (no I am not afraid to say I cried)
So what are yours and why?

My favorite manga: Gravitation. We have over the top comedy, a slight splash of drama, and sweet romance. It was the first manga series I ever bought every volume of and also my first shonen ai series.
My favorite anime: Oh, hard. I think FLCL just because even though it is ridiculous, it had a point to it. No joke, there is a point and it is a good one, not some perverted sex tip.

My all time favorite anime so far, has to be Gankutsuou. I still have yet to watch anime that was as amazing as Gankutsuou (after watching it). Next to it would have to be Fullmetal Alchemist.
My all time favorite manga of course is Berserk, because it is by far one of the most BADASS mangas out there. Next to it would probably be Monster, because it was flatout amazing.

anime? FLCL i dont watch alot of anime, but the animation, action, and tender moments in this threw me for a loop(pretty anything by gainax has been really good tho)

All time favorite manga- Gakuen Alice. Its shoujo, nothing in particular is special about it and I can readily admit there are better plots, better characters out there. Just somehow I keep rereading it, and looking at the artwork always makes me smile if not outright laugh. I guess just how light hearted and cute the whole thing is pulls me out of whatever mood I am in. I lump the anime in with that because every time I pull out a volume from my shelf, I end up humming the opening and ending songs, and when I read, I hear the anime characters voices in my head.
Favorite ainme is harder, as there really isn't one I always go back to- but there are plenty that while being released I could barely wait for the next one. I would have to say One Piece, even though it has already been said. As much as I love reading the manga, the anime is on a whole different level. The back stories can get long and tiring, but Luffy and the crew's way of relating to each other never gets boring, and I always squeal when he goes to kick ass. I actually intend to buy the whole thing once its over. (god forbid that happens soon)

Anime : Eureka7 definitely the best mecha anime ever !!! 
also CCS (my first love with anime), Azumanga Dai-oh, School Rumble (and still many more to come
)
Manga : Love Roma, just love it. I don't really know why, maybe because of it's simplicity. Also all those Adachi's works, genshiken. and still many more ( just too many
)

Wowie That's cool...wish manga was that cheap in the US. Not like I buy alot though...the quality isn't all that good and it's usually edited so I prefer scanlations most of the time

Manga: all time favorite, AKIRA, i guess. Its been with me since i was 14, and i bought myself the books as a birthday present when i turned 23.
Anime: don't watch that much anymore. FLCL gets the title by default.

Hmm.. my fave Anime of all times would be Konjiki no Gash Bell. I guess all those heart touching scenes are getting to me. I need to try hard to stop myself from tears. The way the artist have his char grown is awesome. ^^
And my fave Manga would be Yugo Negotiator. ^^ I like the way yugo tackle his negotiations.
