why is politics a taboo topic in this forum? granted, it's a manga forum, but considering all that highly irrelevant and ridiculous topics made in the chatter box, politics is a much more interesting and important subject! i don't understand why the mods always close down threads involving politics...at least they would encourage some intelligent discussions rather than the normal "what type of cellphone" or "what do you eat when you have no money" (only for demonstration purposes, no meaning intended for the topic maker)...

also, with election day being today, politics is an even more important topic being that whoever becomes the president of US could affect the entire world, in terms of the economy and global warming

Not to mention the effect it has on Mangas smile

Ask John Ojama in Air Gear, and Mangas like Akumetsu

also If the economy of Japan goes to hell or worse... "someone launching a nuke at Korea or Japan" the world of manga would change for eva laugh

Because people will always disagree and get into fights over it.

Same reason religion is a no no.

Didn't notice there was actualy some sort of taboo going around.
I just figured people avoided those serious topic 'naturaly' cool

I don't think I'd be able to participate much in such "debates" though >_>
I only have a general understanding of most political situations.. thus the moment someone goes too specific on a random country's politics, I'm probably lost ~ roll

that's why moderators exist, no?

if people start to go into their own little world and start attacking each other, couldn't you just give them a warning or something? there're like 20 new mods now, and they have more power than just locking threads that go against the rules...

also, the "discussion on the subject of Politics and Political threads" still hasn't reached a decision yet? or are the mods haven't started?

if people just prevent the creation of controversial subjects, all there will be left to discuss about is what color is your hair or how tall are you

I don't really see any problem with discussing it as long as people don't get into a heated discussion. It's kinda sad that threads get locked just because two people only want to push their opinions onto others. It's controversial, yes, but it can be discussed in a civilized way too. And if people want to make a more private conversation, there is PM for that too.

It's not taboo. It just isn't allowed at the moment since we're trying to figure an easier way to moderate the topics. So until then...

Just be thankful we didn't decide to ban it altogether...

The moderators are currently trying to find a constructive and positive way to discuss politics. We've decided that we will allow the discussion, but with certain stipulations added.

Once we get something worked out, it should be fine.

O.O

constructive and positive? is that even possible?

With Politics and Religion people will disagree and will Bash each other that is just natural, but is going to happen in any topic worth to be discussed, is like If you ask people if Bleach is worth a read or not, some people just want to burn the poor thing and others will start to fight back, is just the natural way of things... HOWEVER, when you use FACTS then and only then the discussion becomes something worth reading since you are getting information from both sides of the river, that is why having discussion's of controversial topics is so important.

If you refuse to acknowledge that, then there is no point in not banning any form of discussion altogether, some of us just can't pass our days asking the eye color of everyone else, some are just a little more deep than that (no offense intended to anyone) eyes

so it's allowed or it's not allowed?

both of your posts are contradictory, and it's still unclear to me about the limits and boundaries of discussions about politics

not allowing topics like that is the same as banning them all, since all of the threads involving politics like the presidential election or even the economy crisis are already locked

to me, this presidential election is probably going to be the most interesting political subject in many decades...after this, the republicans and democrats are just going to return to their habits of bickering among themselves about government issues

Simply put, Not allowed at this point in time...

We'll be reopening them once it's all sorted out...

cry I've been complaining about it for months.
And well, the mods are still discussing it.

Shame that we can't do so now... dead

The answer is simple when a topic is about politics delete comments that have no intelligent thought behind it. I could care less if people thought Osama was the greatest guy on the earth if they have a some intelligent reasons behind why they believe that.

Other option would be separate section which clearly states that this section is for politics and if you are easily offended stay the fuck out...

Also this "We are discussing" is pretty bs as it's taken 1 month+? and still no decision... no

Who'd want to go through all the posts to find "comments that have no intelligent thought behind it."?...
You can go mad like that. laugh

If we'd have laws for that, I don't mind political threads~
