I thought about this right after my adoption post, and I thought it deserved its own thread. So, another poll asking your opinion. If you choose the third, could you please explain?

I personally don't think that abortions should be illegal, but I don't think I'd have one if I just didn't want a child. Other ways to prevent that, you know.

Well, the mother's will should be respected I think. I agree sometimes they aren't exactly in a position where they can manage to decide, but if it's age, they should be informed adequately, and if it's one kind of limit situation I think that the people close to her should know about what would she had choose if she could.

In certain circumstances. Like if it was rape, incest, or a danger to the woman's life.

Otherwise not, you shouldn't destroy a possible life just because you don't want it.

I'm the one vote for "it shouldn't happen." I know most people find it a little extreme, but I believe life begins at conception and that everyone has the right to life. If you don't want to get pregnant, don't do anything that will get you pregnant or at least use the protection. If you use protection and it fails, sorry. Perhaps the ONLY exception is when the mother's LIFE is in danger. I'd also add rape, but from a legal standpoint, that wouldn't work (everybody'd be saying they were raped).
Alright, my rant is over. I'll step back and let people tell me what an idiot I am for denying women the choice.

I think that women should definitely have the choice of whether or not they want to have an abortion. In many cases I believe that putting the baby up for adoption would be the better choice, but there are many cases where abortion could be the correct choice to minimize the impact on the mother's and the father's life.

Not exactly there are medical and psychological exams in those cases, at least here.

There was a case some years ago around here where a girl was raped and went to an hospital, Catholic one (happened to be the closest one) and they didn't want to give her the pill. It's one of those cases where moral limits are thin.

what if its the case where the child would be born with a genetic disorder which causes them to suffer and die at an early age dead

morals... conflicting morals

i would say it depends on the circumstance... not sure about who should get to decide the fate of an unborn child

I think I'd only go for the life in danger one. I would want everyone to have a choice in whether or not they want to live or die so if possible I'd like for the child to decide. Which of course is not possible ta this point @_@

Hm it was difficult for me to decide, but I think in this case, I'd still rather have the child born. I don't want to treat the child differently (by my views) because of it's genetic disorder.

I don't think my opinion matters much. I do believe it's a woman's right to have an abortion if she feels the need. I mean, I'm not going out encouraging every woman to have one. I think it's irresponsible to go through the operation just because you are too young, or you are unprepared. It was your fault you had the child, deal with the consequences.

At the same time, I completely understand how a woman could choose abortion to save the child from genetic disorders, or future pain, and maybe even if the woman was raped.

But what I've always wondered about, is a pro-life person's opinion on the situation of an ectopic pregnancy.

Well i think abortion is never right... It kills babies who were brought into this world by the parents irresponsibility. If you got rapped and wanted a abortion that would be a little more justified but its still wrong. I just feel that to many babies die from abortion. If you put together all the wars the US has been in since its creation it dosen't come close to the number that are killed from abortion in the last 25 years. dead Abortions 1.5 million/year how many of these can be from rape... I think people need to get educated... It just annoys me when people die for no good reason... All People Have The Right To Life!!!!!! I think about 97%death count is from abortion in US. only 3% in conflicts and like disease. eek

P.S. i don't get why people hate the war and yet support abortion... People who go into war usually have some choice a baby has none! (Not that I'm saying war is right)

I can't speak for the whole pro-life movement, but that would put the mother's life at risk. That's the most common "only exception" in the pro-life camp, from what I see.

Amen! I remember my government class getting teary about stray dogs being put down in China yet loudly supporting abortion. I just didn't and still don't get it.

Murder is bad. Destroying a fetus is the same as killing a soon to be born child, but no one will really care. I also see the logic of allowing women the choice. Basically the government would have to say you MUST have that baby. Which, would probably in turn imply you must do everything in your power to keep that baby healthy, and soon enough all expecting mothers are kept in incubators for 9 months. Also, forcing women is the same type of government policy as when china forced families to not have children, and no one (no government official) in America wants to be seen as socialist (except the socialist party). Besides even if they were illegal there would be women who have them anyway, and at least this way they can be safer. Therefore, I support the legality of abortion, but I also wish we lived in a world where all children could be born. If you think about it though that world is a mere fantasy.
