Oh, eek,so it's just become the manga with a "legendary problematic open ending" due to the numerous opinions laugh, although there was a poll created by the author to please her fans (in Japan)?,guess it's an inevitable effect if people still complain & argue till today. (Can't believe this is my 2nd post in this topic)

Well, with all the logical and illogical points of the plot you guys brought up (no, i didn't spend my precious time reading them all, just skimming through =_=) i suppose the author did try her best to make the plot influential. Yeah, i agree that there are diversionary cues and unnecessary love rivals popping out,(perhaps the author thought they make the ending more surprising), but if you are used to many ridiculous situations in the story then that shouldn't be the problem ( not my case, of course).Hmm, the fruitful love of the couple Manaka - Tsukasa, along with many efforts of Tsukasa to achieve her true love, and the fruitless love between Manaka and the two others girls, are things that make sense to me (probably the only two things that make sense in this manga). For me, the mangaka failed from the moment i realized what kind of person the main character is and the number of girls who were totally obsessed by him, don't think this is my personal biased dislike no, i just believe the fact that this unreality may easily affect your will of striving to improve yourself in real life (the change of Manaka in the last chapter was too late compare with his abnormal popularity)and your intelligence (if u know what i mean), anyway it's just my own standpoint though.

PS : dudes, don't feel sad for satsuki or aya, actually i'm so glad and grateful that they didn't end up with Manaka eyes ,they deserve some one cooler and smarter! (although i doubt that they would love anyone else as long as they are characters in this manga), i recommend a genius and funny guy like Jiro in Hajimete no Aku for Aya, lol, if he were older.

@Dr. Love,. Good job at explaining your reasons for supporting the different girls through out the manga and your reasons make alot of sense. As for me, although I supported Tsukasa from the beginning, I agree that she was really immature early on and her relationship with Manaka at that point in the story was very childish but that's just what you can expect from a middle-school girl with a middle-school relationship. The reason I like Nishino's character so much is because she matured and changed throughout the whole manga. She was the only girl who acted her age and was the most developed character in terms of personality and maturity among all the girls. I doubt even Tsukasa would recognise her old self if she compared it with her own present self, its like two different girls. The best thing I liked about Tsukasa is she learnt from her mistakes and rarely made the same mistake twice

Quote from Dr. Love
Strayed, I don't mean any offence by this, but stop your whining about Aya not getting together with Junpei. Yeah, you're right. The mangaka probably didn't knew herself that she would have Junpei together with Tsukasa, but I guess throughout the writing process she thought that it would be a much better fit and she began to doubt who to choose between Aya and Tsukasa.

If I remember correctly, she did a poll in a manga magazine of who she would pick for Junpei. The poll decided for Tsukasa, so there you have it.

I supported for all three girls during certain intervals in the story. First I supported for Aya, since Junpei was in love with her (the strawberry-underwear girl!). And I thought of Tsukasa nothing more than a nuisance. Then she left and how she cut off her ties with Junpei was actually quite mature. My respect for her grew, but she left and I thought that was the end of her.

Then came Satsuki and I rooted for her instead. In contrast towards Aya's timidness, I loved her aggressiveness and how she immediately went for her target. After a while though, her aggressiveness wore off and she seemed just... desperate/pathetic. So when Tsukasa came back in the story, all matured - and actually setting her dream as the first priority before some silly crush - made me fall in love with her character.

Conclusion: Tsukasa, all the way! laugh

And sure, it's an "open ending" for most of the others. But I guess that's up to you to imagine how the story would progress.

let's just put aside the girls first, ok?
did i rant about how i want aya-junpei ending? smile i guess not.
right now, don't involve the feeling u have for the girls by saying something like :
xxxxxx, all the way!
i believe u and me already matured enough to read clearly. smile

my problem with this manga is not why junpei didn't choose aya smile
by this, please don't misunderstand me again,ok? smile
no matter who junpei would end up with, i would gladly see it, as long as she made it strong, and supported by strong props.
the fact is, the current ending is too vulnerable to be assaulted by reader's complaint. smile

it's not like i wanting aya-junpei ending. NO
i didn't find any strong reason to say that tsukasa-junpei wouldn't work, and also i didn't find any strong reason to say that aya-junpei wouldn't work either. what i wanted was just a well prepared ending. i don't give a damn which one, either aya or tsukasa, as long as it was prepared well. smile
and if the only choice had to be only tsukasa-junpei ending, i prefer to see a stronger and undisputed ending for them.
what i mean here is, if she really had prepared a strong ending for tsukasa-junpei, she should have not build anymore clue for aya-junpei ending anymore. it wasn't necessary to build anymore clue for aya-junpei ending. (even keeping a love rival like amachi until vol.18)
because it made many readers felt deceived. and the aya-junpei supporters would feel betrayed. (yes, just look at the fact that so many people disappointed)

the fact is, she made too much props for aya-junpei ending. it wasn't necessary if the mangaka already fixed her decision for tsukasa-junpei ending earlier.
it would be better she gave her best to make a strong props for tsukasa-junpei ending rather than keep on building aya-junpei relationship at the same time. (even until the last chapter)

if what i said was wrong, how come many people feel disappointed by the ending?
every people seeing this manga from many point of view. because the mangaka didn't make a firm decision earlier, so every people would have a different view.
i'm not saying it was wrong to say it made sense for tsukasa to be with junpei. but i also find it made sense too if the mangaka made aya-junpei ending.

my problem is : i found the ending wasn't prepared well.
she should have decided it earlier so she could gave all her best in making tsukasa-junpei ending. and by that, she wouldn't make the aya-junpei supporters feel betrayed.

thank you for bringing me a proof to support my opinion above. smile
adding more fact the mangaka still wasn't sure about which girl he would choose even until the last minute. but no need to show me this proof, i already can see the ending wasn't prepared well. smile

A poll doesn't prove anything. The hints were there for both parties, the paths were already paved... Now all the mangaka did, was listen to her fans. She could've gone either way. And what do you mean, deceived? Shounen Harems bring in new characters ALL THE TIME just to keep it fresh. It gets boring with the same cast after all.

TsukasaxJunpei ending wasn't that out of the blue. It was in fact prepared. I mean, Tsukasa was there from chapter 1! And they were even dating from chapter 1, iirc. I still remember how Tsukasa confessed the same way as how Junpei did which was a reference to the beginning of the manga. Tsukasa and Junpei constantly had a dynamic relationship throughout the story. You can't say that it was "unprepared". It was unexpected though, since Shounen Harems usually stick to the "first-girl-wins" rule, which didn't happen in Ichigo 100%.

And yes, I know that you're not whining about AyaxJunpei specifically, but it still sounds like whining. I respect your opinion and I get how this manga could have made such a deep impact on you, but you have to let it go. Accept how it ended.

I'm sorry if I came over as crude (I'm fairly certain it does), but the story is just how it is. Make peace with it.

yes, deceived, because she gave hope for nothing. smile
the fact is, her props for the ending wasn't convincing enough to block many readers' complaint. smile

and yes, of course it was prepared. but not prepared well. at least not well enough to stop many readers to complaint. smile

like what i said before, i don't give a damn about which girl he would choose as long as it was a well prepared ending.. smile
well, whatever you want to judge me, whether i'm whining for AyaxJunpei or not. it's all up to you, dude. i don't mind it. smile
i understand your situation. smile

um...what do u want me to accept? the ending that wasn't prepared well? smile
thanks man, because of your very wise feedback, i can finally accept it. smile

edited some misspelled words smile

All right guys chill down a bit. Everybody has a right to voice their own opinions no need to get all heated up. However I do think the path that led to the ending was prepared well enough for both JunpeixAya or JunpeixTsukasa but the author went for Tsukasa that's all there is to it. Both girls deserved Junpei and both had their chances but only one could have him. That one girl had to be the one that made use of the chances that came their way and Tsukasa utilised every one of those chances but unfortunately Aya didn't and that ultimately made the difference. The point of many fans feeling deceived maybe because they thought why keep Aya in the hunt when Tsukasa was the one to end up with him? I guess the answer to this could be the author had to keep both girls in the hunt in order to make the manga more interesting, to keep the readers guessing. I think even the author wasn't sure which girl she would put Junpei with. Because I daresay she liked both the characters that she created in Aya and Tsukasa and wasn't sure to make which one the loser and which one the winner. Maybe early on in the series she thought Aya was best suited but as she kept evolving Tsukasa through out the manga the author began to think Tsukasa is the better girl after all and so she left it to the readers who chose Tsukasa as the better girl. Its not all that strange for an author to love her own creation and in this case Tsukasa kept evolving enough to make even her writer confused lol.
Personally, I think Tsukasa is one of the best girl character out of all the mangas I have read. The author did a really good job in developing Tsukasa. Tsukasa is perfect in every sense of the word and she is just right for Junpei. bigrazz

You right Dr. Love that THE HEART STABING ENDING is necessary to keep reader remember the manga. In fact according statistick in manga updates it got 10 point from 230 votes, 9 point from 162 votes, 8 point from 145 votes, 7 point from 145 votes. But i must admit that it got 1 point from 66 votes, as consequence of plot which choose by mangaka.

The story already end anyway, despite a lot of Aya fans unsatisfy with ending, it won't change the story.

oh god, it's been a long time since I finished this manga, but even though it didn't follow the usual as Dr.Love said first girl wins rule. Though I was shocked myself to see Junpei end up with Tsukasa, but it was basically a given when he got back together with her during the school festival arc. For Aya fans(I was one as well), unlike some main female leads from other Harem/romance comedies she never expressed how she felt til it was too too late and she had so many opportunities. Frankly I am kinda glad it ended the way it did cause for once it was kinda shocking and refreshing as well, cause usually when it comes to harem manga/anime it is usually given who the guy will choose. The author did something no-one really expected I guess and now when I read other harem manga's I am always wondering who will the main guy choose. Example To Love-Ru will Rito choose Haruna or Lala, I don't know
Spoiler (highlight to view)
(though if I remember correctly I think Lala already confessed her feelings and only Lala and Lala's sister knows that Haruna likes Rito)
Don't read the spoiler if u haven't been reading it, but it ain't even a big one

do u really think the people who gave 8-10 points really satisfied with the ending? smile
well, i gave it 9 even though i'm not satisfied. smile
because i respected her artwork and story. smile
it wasn't necessary to give a low point just because i don't like the ending.

the mangaka should have made more chapters for tsukasa-junpei before the ending to give the ending a strong props and to give more time for the readers to finally accept it instead of building aya-junpei relationship at the same time. so the readers wouldn't complaint anything. smile
we can't blame the readers who felt like betrayed and turned out to hating the mangaka, because she didn't prepared well for what would the readers think about her decision. smile

Honestly, i think mangaka herself is an indecisive people too, so she can draw perfectly indecisive character like Junpei. Because that she can easy imagine what indecisive guy like Manaka act, if he enter in situation like Ichigo 100%.

The proof that mangaka indecisive are she chose Nishino according pooling and she keep gave Aya and Satsuki romantic scene. Even i 200% sure after Kyoto arc, mangaka already decided that Manaka belong to Nishino.

@strayed
Even i already know since begining that Manaka belong to Nishino, i can avoid feel very sad when i saw Manaka must chose Nishino because he owes Nishino too much. Every time i saw Manaka and Toujo final farewell under the snow to their love feelling, i still feel very sad.cry

That hapen to me, even i already anticipated it since Kyoto arc. To people will root Toujo from beginning until the end, it must be feel so haaaaaaaaaaaaaard sad

But i understand that mangaka way to rolercoaster us. And i not hate mangaka for what she did, because that the power of Ichigo 100%. Without rolercoaster plot, the manga will just became usual shounen harem manga bigrazz

no, it's not like i hate tsukasa-junpei ending. smile
i just brought those facts only as my observation for what might aya-junpei supporters thought when they saw the ending. smile
because the mangaka built tsukasa-junpei relationship, but at the same time she also kept on making the aya-junpei supporters even more curious for aya-junpei ending. smile

as for my personal opinion,
even though aya and junpei finally realized their mutual feeling, and even though they still love each other, but the two of them probably thought that that time it wasn't possible to start a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, because i believe aya didn't want to disturb other people's boyfriend. and junpei didn't want to betray tsukasa.
and that's why i didn't say that the tsukasa-junpei ending was a bad choice. smile

and i think aya-junpei ending would be also assaulted too by many complaints if it wasn't prepared well. no matter which girl it would be, it wouldn't be a disappointing ending as long as it was prepared well enough. and from my point of view, the current story development wasn't ready enough for either aya ending or tsukasa ending. more chapters would be needed to prepare the ending completely. smile

the trouble for mangaka maybe because the manga dragged too long, normally romance manga consist of 10 volume. But Ichigo 100% consist of 19 volume, so mangaka idea to dragged the story longer already drainned.

All of know that Miyuki Kawashita manga except Ichigo 100%, max size is 4 volume (Hatsukoi Limited). So it must be very hard for her made 19 volume of manga, while normally she just made 4 volume manga eyes

agree, smile
because of the popularity, tha mangaka decided to make this manga run longer (at first she intended to make it short). but unfortunately, she dragged it for too long, so the popularity kept on dropping. and when the story so far was still in the middle of intersection and without any good preparation, she had been forced to make it end right away.
that's why, i think it would be better if she had prepared well for the ending rather than keep on dragging the story. it was too risky smile
after reading BAKUMAN, i finally know that in manga industry, every manga should keep it's popularity stable, because it's ranked weekly. and if the manga ain't strong enough to keep it's position, it should be the end of it.
the same thing happened to Mx0

Ending caught me off guard i had thought i read a spoiler that said it was the girl later in the game(ie kozue). I really wouldnt have minded it ending with anyone of the ladies but Tsukasa. I really never liked reading about her throughout the manga and the ending...perturbs me.

19 volumes was a bit much especially considering that 2/3 of the way through it seemed like manaka slow learning curve led him back to where he was at the beginning. Also what was the point of Kozue Mukai i liked her, she did get annoying sometimes, but she had no real effect on the plot it was like filler.

Personally i never understood why manaka was such an ass to only satsuki. The mangaka also made her too clingy at points.

I would have liked to to end with Satsuki or Kozue but really all i wanted was for Tsukasa to hurry up and dissapear... damn.

Well at least i read the manga considered a goldstandard for its genre.

the reason manga expand from normal 10 volume to 19 volume is to prepare Manaka X Nishino ending, cause i think form volume 11 upside mangaka switch main female rule from Toujo to Nishino.
