It just shows that feelings alone doesnt make a relationship, Aya had her chance but didnt do anything, although thats also Manaka's fustratingly indecisive nature there as well but they both liked eachother yet neither could act. Nishino, as others have mentioned as well, never gave up and even during parts when they seemed to be drifting apart she made an effort to remain apart of Manaka's life. You could say she just wanted the relationship more then Aya and was willing to work for it.

wow I really shouldn't go into my long monologue.
But if we are to look at it as a fact of "winning and losing". I feel and always felt that Aya won. Just the fact that she had moved on when time to move on came about was proof enough.
Ok say what you want about Manaka and Nishino but that is just a dead end relationship. Like most "highschool" relationships.

Well Manaka and Nishino's highschool relationship did end in a manner when she left and they started another relationship when they met again at the end. If their relationship could survive their time apart then theres no reason it cant when they are together.
And pretty much all of the characters moved on with their lives at the end we can all agree on that I think.

Seriously, if you're going to be like that then absolutly nothing in the whole universe is original... Since any new idea or concept must have been inspired by something else already present. New concepts are born from old events that trigger a new thoughts into the minds of some.
And everybody was expecting Ichigo 100% to end with Aya, so when another ending came. Well it was at least unexpected if not original...
And I'm not Hostile, but you see, I found that Nishino worked a lot on her relationship and they developed that alot. It would surely have pissed me off to see all that dissapear the moment Aya confesses.
I don't know maybe I'm just the empathic kind? When I read a story I kinda get affected by the characters emotions, and I can't stand when a nice guy/girl is treated like dirt... It makes me mad. (That's one reason I don't read to much Shoujo, they often have the miserable dramatic storyline type...)
And anyway, I think all those that read Ichigo can agree on only ONE thing:

Same here, Aya was the first girl we were introduced to, and i kinda liked her first. Build up or no build up...Manaka was stupid not to realize that Aya liked him. I mean..they were gonna kiss in Tokyo..which was when he wasn't with Nishino. Now...why would someone wanna kiss someone else when they don't like that person?(S#!%$ aside
)And Hostile's right, Aya did almost nothing for herself. She also made the mistake of going to the festival with her brother (seriously...this would give anyone the wrong idea -_-). In the end,her shyness was her own downfall (that last scene in the snow made me cry T_T)
Satsuki's attitude wasn't right from the beginning so everyone kinda saw that she wouldn't be the one. Only a guy who was only into sex would've chosen her.
In the end, i kinda got over my depression because i figured that in a love triangle, someone has to get hurt....and also because of Lilim Kiss

the manga is quite filled with the usual cliche (wishy washy main character, loads of gratuitious babes who are strangely attractted to him, hot spring scenes, etc.), and i'm quite greatful with the ending. at least it didn't go along with the usual cliche where the heroine ends up with the hero

Aaaaaaw, but cliche's are what love stories all about! ppl are just used to that idea so thats why a lot of ppl hate the ending..including me

well, another reason why i like the ending is cuz Nishino spent more time in the later half with Manaka and is also very clear and honest with her feelings for him compared to Aya. Even in reality, if someone was in Manaka's position, he/she'd choose someone like Nishino who would offer a relationship with both constancy and depth.

I liked this manga, I thought it was great. I think what really set it apart from other shounen romances is how Manaka not only made a decision for once in his indecisive life, but he worked hard after making his decisions, their seperation when Nishino went to France. I thought that was what made it a good ending, rather than just having the main character finally choosing a girl and them getting together, but actually choosing a girl and then sticking with his decision despite having such a huge obstacle ahead.

Oh man, yeah. After reading the book I was sort of bothered by everything that happened, for days. And that was the first time I experienced that from reading a manga.
Also, I love Aya as well and who could ignore that sparkle in her eyes while she was looking at Junpei after all those years. Too bad, too bad...

Well, I dunno, Ichigo 100% wasn't my absolute best favourite, but it had a nice ending.
For one, I could never see Manaka with Toujo Aya. She's too good for him and he keeps disappointing her so I'm glad he's with someone else.
