There is a fairly logical argument to be made for god. Granted I can't think of any that would point to any given religion in my opinion (from a purely logical perspective), but none the less, the existence of god shouldn't be so easily ruled out.

But not that any of that matters, because funkmu1 is right, Flying Spagetti Monster ftw?

Hmm... as we are now, it ranges from extremely difficult to pretty much impossible for us to truly disprove the existence of anything... although proving the existence of something is as simple as finding an example of it. With that said, I will not throw away the possibility of there being some sort of god-like beings out there. But, until they are verified as real, I also will not be paying them much attention.

On another note, I do not believe in the "God" that most people I've met believe in. The one that's supposed to be all-knowing, all-loving, created everything etc... I rather find the gods of Mount Olympus more feasible =/

Is it the fact they are not omnscient or omnipetent, or the fact that their behaviour is very, well . . . human?

I think it's the coupling of the creator, perfect, all-loving mixed in with the way our world is that makes it seem strange for me. This is how I see it:

If he's perfect and created everything, then everything that has happened, is happening and will happen are all intended by him. If that is so, that means he also intentionally created evil, corruption, pain, etc... which doesn't seem all that loving and caring...

If he's all-loving, first of all, it shouldn't matter to him if we even knew about him or not. In fact, it may even be better if he didn't reveal himself. Afterall there have already been many wars and persecutions over God.

These are all just personal views. I do not know everything, and that may have caused me to miss something... but then again, no one else on this planet knows everything either...

Maybe he has except you just haven't seen it. For example when ur sick, he may offer healing but u decided to ignore him and reject him. He wouldn't force it on u if you don't accept it. It's like a prezzie, he offers you a gift but you choose to ignore it, reject it and disregard it. In reality, isn't it just you that has not taken up God's gift?

Onwards to psychology. The problem here isn't entirely whether God exists or not (ok maybe it is...but that's beside the point =P) but whether we choose to believe he exists or not or whether we are open for opinion. We like to hear what we want to hear. it's like medical diagnostics/information over the internet. The information may not be wrong. In fact it may be true. But we are given a large amount of different sources. It is in fact the user itself that can choose which sources to believe. And we usually believe in the sources/solutions we already thought of before we actually searched for them. A bit complicated since i didn't explain it well but what I'm saying is not only a flaw as an individual but also a flaw as a group...as a society.

I myself has experienced both sides of the argument and the answer may not be as simple as a yes or a no. In some ways, there is no maybe. Because in reality a maybe is a no (figure of speech). (Eg. Brightness/Darkness is not a measurement of how much "dark" there is in a particulate spot but a measurement on the amount of light in that spot. And thus leaving us with only 2 absolute solutions [when simplified]; whether there is light of any variable amount or whether there is no light. This applies for temperature as well). And thus the answer may not be as simple as a yes or a no...but in reality it IS as simple as a yes or a no.

Sry for the very complicated explaination. After many years of research (not really) and many more years of research to come...my answer is yes, I believe God exists.

The subject in itself is a very complicated matter and a very serious one indeed. However understanding both sides/all sides is also very important. However remember that understanding both sides absolutely is impossible. Does God exists? Look around you. Do you see theory or do creation?

I'd also like to make another interesting implication. Science does NOT disprove God or creation unlike the usual stereotype. HOWEVER, Science is the cumulative thoughts of man and is in no way perfect. It is like a simplified version of reality like how Einstein's equations are but a simplification of what really happens despite its complexity.

I don't believe in god.
There are no reasons for believing in a god anyway.
My friend once told me that she started believing after she missed a flight that crashed, I asked her "what about the people who died? didn't god love them? where you better than those who died?"

Some say that when something bad happens thats god testing you.
I say its life, no god is responsible for anything, how would you explane Hitler? or terorisem? ir cancer? and such.

What about a child's death? or a new born. Did they do anything wrong to deserve death? Because death is considered the worst punishment, like in the jewish religion- if somebody kills himself he is buried in a different location.

I can understand why people believe in god, they want to convice themselves that there is a reason for all the crap that happens.
But when people are tought to believe it's just stupid, because it's not realy faith.

Religion also causes many bad things.
Those who hate people that are different (because thier religion doesnt aprove them) it's all very sad and pointless and hurtful..

People should believe in themselves.. not in a story about heaven behind the moon and hell in the middle of the earth... no

I do believe in god. This may seem pointless however I am a Deist wich should answer all of your 'why does bad to those who deserve good '. Though I do agree with part of your last statement

(here's my list according to orthodoxy (christian)) ...at least that is what i believe, i hope my thoughts reflect it.
1. god wants ppl to believe in themselves and improve and choose the path that they want. (free will)
2. god does not kill ppl, the devil does. (in my faith)
3. yes some people are thought, however through that teaching you can achieve faith. you can either receive or deny god. i mean you observed, tought yourself, maybe someone tought you and you realized there is no god, and you have faith in that belief.
4. we have free will that is why things happen. we can somewhat control what happens, even natural disasters (many) are caused because of humans (changing the chemicals in the ozone, global warming, flash floods, building on top of an animals habitat)
5. just because someone dies, it does not mean they were bad or you are better therefore you live, sometimes death is a relief (if youre stuck with a disease your whole life and you cant take it anymore, if you live a life of "torture" and one in which you experience a lot of pain, is it better to live? idk, it depends on the person, but according to my beliefs we will be judged at the very end, and if you did live a short life you don't get sent to hades you are judged by how much you lived and what you did (you probably have a lot greater chance of going to heaven. idk i'm not god)
6. there is no heaven behind the moon and hell in the middle of the earth.lol. im sry but that is amusing to me. its a ridiculous concept to me. sry for those who believe that.
- these are my beliefs discard them if you want, i don't like the whole idea of forcing religion upon ppl. it angers me. believe what you like. in the long run we will find out at the end whose right. lol. all of the faiths have some flaw its true, they cannot solve every question, however i do not think that matters because ppl still will have blind faith, and that is amazing. it is good to have faith, any sort because it keeps us moving and it shapes our life. i have respect for those who cherish things like that. through that they empower themselves.
.........the end ..........finally........ smile

All I have to ask is how many people have each of us hurt with our own greed lust selfishness hate and anger? It's so easy to blame God. I know because that's what I did when I lost my leg. But I'm so thankful that it happened, God took a horrible travesty in my life and turned it into the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. All good things come from God (James 1:17). There is nothing good besides God (Luke 18:19). If God is not to blame for the evil that is plaguing our world than who is? No one else but us.

would you rather have ppl believe in one thing, and not be able to be free? there is a cost for freedom. in this case free will.
- there are many screwed up things in this world. the world is not perfect. i personally try not to have a grudge against religion.

I am not sure whether I believe in god or not. This is not because I haven't thought about it much or that I don't know what I believe. Rather, I don't know whether I believe in god because I don't know what god is. This is not a simple question to answer because most every religion has a different definition of god. So can someone please tell me what god is (at least according to you).

I think your partially right when you say that it is very hard to describe what God is. Even the Bible admits defeat when it comes to describing something that is infinite. God is Love. He is Holy, Righteous, Just, Wrathful, Jealous, Merciful, Graceful. These are just words. If you really are serious about searching for God I recommend reading the Gospel of John in the Bible. This book basically spells out quite literally what you need to have God. I actually just recently started reading it. After falling into some really hard times. It's definitely a good reminder of God's unfailing love and faithfulness.

i hope you dont mind if i call it into question, but, why exactly do you belive in "god"?

i've always seen things from a logical stand point, and like i said earlier in this thread, i really dont care wether there is one or not, it works for some but not for others..

so why exactly do you belive in "god"?

ps.
i am not trying to start an argument, i have always just been curious about other peoples beliefs.

I believe in "god". However the "god" I believe in was created by man, to explain their current existence. So I have no religious faith in Her (if god does reveal itself to humanity are a real creature I firmly believe it would be female, hypothetically speaking.)

If God exists I don't think it would be female nor male, I don't even think it will have a corporeal body.
