When did you start reading scanlations? And...perhaps which series?

I think my first was CardCaptors, haha. Either that or Chrno Crusade or Detective Conan (all the way back in 2004-2005-ish)

Question: For about how long have you read scanlations?
Choices:
None, I don't read scanlations - votes: 77 (0.6%)
Within the last year (2008-2009) - votes: 1212 (9.9%)
1-2 years (2006-2007) - votes: 3666 (29.9%)
3-4 years (2004-2005) - votes: 3563 (29.1%)
5-6 years (2002-2003) - votes: 2148 (17.5%)
7+ years (2001 - prior) - votes: 1586 (12.9%)
There were 12252 total votes.
The poll ended: January 10th 2009

How ironic, I was just talking about this with amaranthine. laugh

I started in late 2007 (November I think), and my first series was Naruto.

I started reading scanlations between 7th and 8th grade (so around 2002). I probably read some a couple years before because of my sister but I was more of an anime person up until the end of 7th grade.

I can't remember exactly what manga it was that was my first, but I think the mangas that really got me into scanlations were Ichigo 100% and Pretty Face.

oh wait, I think CCS was somewhere in there too lol. Anyway, those were my beginning online mangas.

I started to read scanlations since 2004 and the first ones is Naruto, Pretty Face, MAR and etc ( although my first one is Dragonball in 1995 but thats doesn't counts since i buy the scanlated book at store not fansubs ). Im more active reading scanlation releases in 2006 because i got broadband connection. biggrin Now i read many releases and some of it i couldn't keep up dead .

I think I started reading around 8-9 years ago. Which is probably why I'm all burned out right now. XD

Yep, I've read them all, I've seen all the cliches, and I've gotten tired of most of 'em by now. I started reading manga back when MangaProject was still alive and only had less than 5 titles active. I read Kimagure Orange Road and Video Girl Ai. They were the popular ones at that time. smile At that time MangaProject was the only group I was aware of who had direct downloads. All other groups released via IRC, which I didn't know how to use back then. Scanlations were special then. They were all high quality. No one did it for the fame, and there were no project-stealing or speedscans. Ahhhh...the good 'ol days. biggrin

I think it was mid '05, if I remember correctly. Though I'm probably wrong.

Around the same time I started reading manga. 1-2 years ago. I couldn't find one of the volumes to Absolute Boyfriend in my store, so I searched it up the net and jackpot~

And then I found this site ^^

I guess its been about 5-4 years...at that time I didn't know of 'ONLINE READING' so I downloaded the manga. It was a Spanish site with a purple layout...don't remember the name, but anyways, I started reading Saboten no Himitsu, Kaikan Phrase, and a manga about a girl and a fox... that was the first complete series... I dropped Kaikan Phrase on the 3rd chapter, and since they only had a few chapters of Saboten no Himitsu, I researched for it, and that was when I got into downloading manga in English.
To this day I love scanlation sites. <3
