idk why i feel this way and it looks like i'm the only one but i really dont feel that nana deserved Ren. What troubled me mostly that the characters like yasu and hachiko kept telling nana to confide in ren but they never told her to be "there" for him. It's like nana was the only one that was suffering and everyone payed more attention to her. Even yasu who knew Ren was going through stuff did not encourage nana to talk to ren and whatnot. seems like the only one who was truly there for him is his band, trapnest.
any thoughtsconfused

I understand what you are saying. He appeared to be suffering alone. even though she was the one that was running to him, but only when she was running from her problems with Hatchi. When she first arrive in Tokyo she did not have any intentions of looking for Ren. In fact I believe she never forgave Ren for choosing TRAPNEST over her. Because to Nana he did to her what her mother did, he abandoned her. I don't believe she loved him as much as he loved her. Nana was the one who felt she could not have Ren and her music. Nana was the one halting the relationship and moving it forward. Ren was constantly asking her to be with him, but all she saw was that she would have to share him with TRAPNEST. That tug of war was the catalyst to Ren's destructive behavior. That was the difference between her and Hatchi. Hatchi understood where she ranked when it came to Takumi and his band. If only Nana had realized this, and Ren was not bad like Takumi. In the end it looks like Hatchi was there for him more than Nana. She could have done her music and been with Ren, but she hated TRAPNEST more than she loved Ren, that is just my opinion. biggrin bigrazz eyes

I couldn't agree with both of you more.

I don't want to generalize, but to me- Nana always does distraction . and Hachi is always minimalizing the damage. and what Nana did after the worst? she escaped. she was ashamed. this is how I see her dissapearance. I know she had a reason to get away from everybody, I understand etc. but still... Ren died, shouldn.t it be (for her) the strongest reason to change? after all, he was always trying to live, to go further. she started to work on her success aut of grief after being abandoned. I respect proud people in general, but her behavior was rather anoying.

but I still love her. and I really can't belive, that Yazawa killed Ren... (metaphoricly)

was I too much off the topic? if I were- sorry...

I have to disagree with everyone. eek Nana and Ren had a destructive relationship which Nana realized early on and wanted to get away from. In fact she kept hoping that Yasu would rescue her.

I think she ran away because she felt free after Rens death and didn't know how to deal with the guilt she felt. sad cry

if you're right (which might be) it still proves, that nana's totally selfish, past and present. wanted to escape? she was still holding to the memories or feelings that she should have get over with. she wanted yasu to act? ren's best friend? ...

only her present (doubtful) happiness can justify her without-a-single-word leaving. I can't wait to know, how she's doing. and I doubt that she's happy, coz she's in a run. from experience I know that it's really hard to put yourself together in that kind of situation. you can forget for only a moment... and she wasn't THAT strong up to now... has she changed that much? confused

I have to agree with you in a certain respect. Both Nana and Ren were selfish, needy, and posessive. But i do beleive they loved each other deeply, but both of them were lacking in the communication depatment. Yazawa made Ren and Nana similar in that they both wanted to have their career and to live a blissfull happy relationship. The problem is their need for attention and uncertainty about those around them. Nana made no apologizes in the Manga that she despises Trapnest for "making" Ren leave her. I beleive that Ren felt terrible for leaving Nana alone, he even said so the night they were reunited when he was on the phone with Yasu. He wanted to provide a comforable life for Nana and keep her to himself forever, Yazawa depicted him to be smart enough to realize that asking her to go with him could have guilted her into going to tokyo with him and was going to make the relationship toxic and he didnt want that.
My point is that both of them are immature with their feelings because neither one of them had ever loved or cared for someone that deeply. And they didn't know how to handle the thought of being abandoned or lost again. When Ren died so suddenly, Nana felt abandoned and was in shock, thats why she reacted so coldly. However, once Yasu told her it would be the last time she would see him, she snapped and didnt even have the courage to stand. I believe that Reira coming to her when she arrived at his wake and telling Nana it was her fault Ren was out in his condition and the Trapnest pick between his fingers drove the point that her worst fear had been realized, Trapnest had taken Ren away from her...for good this time.
In ch 84, when Nana thinks that Hachi will leave her again is when the last bomb goes off. I beleive that she wanted to start new again without anyone that was close to her so that she would not get hurt.
The realism of this manga is what makes it one of my favorites.

Ok everything you say about Nana is true, she couldn't forgive Ren that he left her for trapnest and wanted to get revenge but I think that Ren was as selfish as Nana, because he didn't wanted Nana to sing... he was thinking of himself when he left to Tokyo, and his word's back then "i'm going to Tokyo, you can do whatever you want", is that something you say to a person you love? Nobu was the one who said thing that she wanted to hear... and he proposed to her just " to get rid of the baldie", are you kidding me? Yasu was always there for Nana no wander she was attached to him... Ren did not valued Nana and Nana did the same... but nobody could deny that they loved each other and they really were destined to be together that is why Nana is living near ocean to be near him...

oh btw I really loved that part when Ren said that he would die together with Nana if she were to die...it was so romantic... eyes

I agree with all of you, except for the one who disagreed smile wink grin
Very sad that they were so perfect for each other (it was as if they were the same person) but they couldn't bring up the effort to love themselves enough to stay together burdenfree...
It was a tragic romance, I still have difficulties to believe he's dead... no
