Its a question that came into my mind and I hope there isnt somthing simliar. What would you do if there were NO scanlations of manga in the Internet? no scanlation groups, no raw, no online reading, no download, nothing. Would you buy ALL manga you have read untill now or would you stop reading Manga?(Its a hypothetical question)

Well for me it would be hard becuse I still want read manga so I would buy Manga but I think would read much less becuse there are not many Manga I like in germany.Maybe I would go as far as Import some mangas I like from US...

Lets hope this will NEVER happen....

Well I think it's a matter of not knowing what your missing. roll eyes

My library has a lot so I would probably read those.

There might be a few I'd buy though. Mostly oneshots.

Well, before I ever knew that there was free manga on the net, I usually hung around Barnes & Noble or Waldenbooks reading it there for free. So I guess I'd still be doing that.

Yeah... Probably the same as @Gorath if I were more obsessive.
I have no money now, especially not for manga.
...
I guess I could stop reading it...
It would be sad though...

Although if there hadn't been scanlations in the first place, I'd probably never come to find out about manga, and all the good titles since it's not popular here, and I wouldn't waste so much money on checking...

Shouldn't we be more thankfull to scan groups? They do all the job and all we do is reap the goods and bitch about stupid things to them. none

There's already a thread for that.

I'd be safe.
I only read scanlations from groups I'm helping out, and I buy all my comics or do a stand-read at BOOKOFF anyway. Japanese comics are generally cheaper than licensed material, so I only spend about 3 - 5 bucks at bookoff/kino per volume.

Probably wouldn't know that manga even exists. So most likely I wouldn't even bother to try buying some kind of weird japanese comics with huge eyes, and not in my native languege.

No seriusly Mangaka are the first ones who should start apreciating scanlators, without them and internet manga would be much less popular and well known.

Oh I know, I was just informing you that there was already a thread that appreciated the scanlators.

And I personally think that the appreciation thread should have the most comments on here, period. You know what that says about certain people... no

Nothing would change for me... I rarely read scans from other groups and even more rarely do I purchase non-original language manga.

I never would have discovered manga, or else only discovered it recently since manga has only become available easily in England in the last year or so. Before there were maybe a single shelf in a bookstore and Forbidden Planet stores (which I never went in until I started readin manga). Even if I had discovered manga I wouldn't have read a fraction of the manga I have read because of lack of funding. Even now I restrict what I buy to my favourites only once I've read at least the first volume. Hence why I always liek to say thankyou to scan groups and I never ever ask for them to quickly release the next chapter since I am just too damn grateful that someone is doing such a huge job. I mean I can't speak any language besides english and am hopeless with computers so even if I had the time I could never do scans myself therefore I have no right to be anything other than grateful someone else is putting in that much effort and skill.

If there were never scanlations, then I'm sure I would never have gotten into manga as much as I now am, and I'd be perfectly happy with that - can't miss what you don't even know exists, after all.

If all scanlations suddenly disappeared, I supposed I'd be more motivated to focus on learning Japanese, and buy more raws (I already buy all the English versions of manga that I really love, as they become available & my budget allows).

I wouldn't have gotten into my manga craze. My manga craze changed my life! It's not as boring now! biggrin I am so grateful to scanlators, I would hug 'em if I could. They deserve our love for their work! I really hope I can learn Japanese within the next few years so I can help more and also read manga not scanlated. Imagine NO scanlations. Everyone who wanted to read manga that isn't licensed in their country would have to learn Japanese. Without scanlations, manga wouldn't be as popular (in other countries).
If scanlations suddenly disappeared... I'd probably die. I would mourn for about a month, read all of the manga I have in English over again, then get straight to learning Japanese. Man, what a train wreck I'd be for the first few days. *Scared to think about it* laugh
