This is more of a shonen/harem cliche, but i hate it when the guy is useless and dense. So dense in fact that he doesn't realize that he has a harem.
And uselessness. Some of the guys I can understand, like Love Hina, Keitaro is a nice guy, girls could fall for him. But the loser, self depressing guys like the ML in Black God(couldn't think of another example of of top of head), how could anyone fall for them?

ughh.. I hate it when the protagonist is physically weak, stupid, optimistic to the point of insanity, and generally annoying. examples are.. the girl in hot gimmick and the girl in parfait tic (they're so annoying, I can't even remember their names).
some heroines I don't mind.. Haruna from Koukou Debut, Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club, Mayu from Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu, Sunako from The Wallflower, and Kira from Mars. That's all out of 35+ shoujo series. pretty sad, huh?
but.. when the hot guy comes in and saves the plain girl, it is really cute. and as a girl, I have to admit, that's kind of my dream, no matter how much I fight it. it probably has something to do with all those idiotic fairytales I heard as a kid.. either that or there's something stupid embedded in a lot of girls' brains.

I hate that guy, junpei, pisses me off.
I watched the anime, and it sucked. So dense, so stupid. He gets a girlfriend on day one, not to mention its the hottest girl in school. Then he realizes that she isn't the girl he thought she was so he dumps her. idiot idiot idiot

The type of cliches that really annoy me would be:
1) Whiny, clumsy, not-so-intelligent girl somehow gets all the guys
2) Smut plots: ARGH!!!! If the girl is abused, how can she find herself falling in love with the guy >.<

I agree, Smut Plots are ridiculous.
The problem is that it really shows real life well. A lot of girls find themselves falling for the "badboy"
This seems to translate well into shoujo so the authors feature it quite heavily.

well you gotta take it the other way too where the totally loser guy gets an awesome girl (love hina comes to mind but thats just borderline shoujo). honestly, how many of you girls would go out with someone who failed to get into college 3 times thats what i thought....
Well in all fairness, and I hope I don't get flamed for this, women tend to be far more emotional then men. Men depend more on visual stimulus and therefore would only pay attention to good looking women. For women, it's emotional attachement thats important. So for me, its totally believable that girls would go out with someone who failed to get into college 3 times, as long as they feel an emotional attachement to this person (in other words, love).

I totally agree with you. I have to say I don't like harem or reverse harem, except Wallflower. In harem the main characters are so made up it gets on my nerves.
I also don't like where the girl pretends to be a guy and sneaks into the school/sport. There only a couple that I enjoyed, like Hana Kimi, and the other one I can't remember the name xD

Hm.. I don't know if this is a cliche.. but I've noticed that almost ALL mangas have a chapter about going to beach or something.. xDD It's just so funny~ and in almost all shoujo mangas, the main character gets sick and then their crush comes over and takes care of them.. hahaha. I like it though~ x]]

I dont like how at least half of the main shoujo characters really cant do anything, and it actually shows them being bad at EVERYTHING! but the guy still fall for her because she "lways looks on the bright side" and she "doesnt give up"
for example (btw, i still liked hese manga, i was just annoyed):
Rockin' Heaven
Gakkou no Ojikan
Gokkun Pucho
MagicalxMiracle
okay, i cant think of any more, but its true!!!!

Oh my gawd...
Why is it that the average girl always gets the hawt, ass bishie?
Girl is smart as fawk and the best in the school, and then some guy comes along and steals her glory. They fight [or she fights against him] and she always loses, and in the process, they fall in love. Only ones like that I actually liked were Kare Kano, but probably cause it got better more into the story, and Special A, but even that series pissed me off some.
Then after she goes out with the hawt, awesome guy his fans gang up on her on the rooftop and her new boyfriend comes to save the day! Only exception was in Koukou Debut, where Haruna beat up the girls herself.
Then after a while, the guy starts wanting seckz, and in some cases, rapes the living brains out of her and she starts saying that "he wanted her so much" so she forgives him and they live happily ever after or some other bullshit like that.
Then they get married and the heroine dies after the bishie becomes a wife beater.

And yet you fangirls will keep on reading it ... so why should the mangakas try anything different?

Winner.
I think the bishie is the worst cliche. But so is the plight of shoujo manga.

Does being able to spot a shoujo manga a mile off because of the art count as a cliché?
The art styles in shoujo manga are almost invariable.
I'm not entirely sure what part of a shoujo manga causes me to want to punch my monitor. I just have a really hard time reading them and normally end up dropping them within 2-3 chapters (Vampire Knight lasted 1.5 volumes with me )
BTW, do guys who can tolerate shoujo manga have a better chance with girls? If so I might try harder to read some, despite how much they can infuriate me.

what about the lovely cliche that the student president is always handsome and atractive 0_o And why does a guy always grab a girls wrist and push her against a wall when he is only a litlle pissed?! And she oly stands there saying it hurts... and in the end they end up together talking about abusive relationship...What also drives me crazy is how the player MLI always falls for the heroin 0_o But I noticed that the manhwa's often have some sort of twist in the plot XD like kill me kiss me
