Quote from dreycy
Another thing I can't understand is when a couple is walking on the sidewalk, the guy always walks on the 'outer' side (the one closer to the street). He assumingly 'protects' the girl, but from what, I wonder: a) She's so clumsy she could fall on the street and under a car for no reason.
b)He's afraid he himself might push her under a car (Some heroines are very annoying, so I totally understand the urge)
c) A car might randomly drive on the sidewalk. laugh

I'm not sure how to explain this but I guess walking on the outer side of a sidewalk is indeed a sign of protection, because when I was young my mom always did this whenever we walked side by side on the sidewalk

Sorry, I just have to LOL so much from this. Mangas are originated from Japan, so of course it would be set in Japan like the Americans with their movies in America, where America is the MOST important country in the world- not that there's anything wrong with that (ppft who am I kidding bigrazz). But I do see you point though, they should be a bit more creative other than using a magic world other than "a kindom far, far away", that would be uncreative as well.

Pet peeve:

When a girl breaks something (like a dish or glass) and ALWAYS picks up the pieces with her bare hands immediately and cuts herself. EVERY time in a manga (often excessively highlighting melodrama or romantic sentiment). Probs doesn't really matter to anyone else but it just irks me... y u make everyone so ditzy, mangakas?

Just once I'd like to see someone use a broom. Or just not cut themselves. That would strangely make my day.

Two things I absolutely abhor:

1: Girl slaps/refuses guy. It's guys first time feeling such "shame" or whatever. He immediately (or soon, anyway) falls in love with girl. Like what. If I were a guy and a girl slapped me, I'd be like "the crap is wrong wit her?" not "I want to marry her."

2. Rape turns into love. Like, no, girl. Rape isn't, and never will be, love.

YES! Words can't describe just how much I agree to this. Who in the right mind would fall for a guy who forces himself on a girl? No matter how much of a hot bishie he is, I'd rather see him hung, drawn and quartered if he ever does that. Smut mangas with these themes really annoy me, and sadly, there's a lot of them.

I actually hate a lot of cliche's in shoujo manga, and here's...some of them:

1. Story opens with a bland girl starting school with the goal of finding a boyfriend.
2. Main guy is a rude (but overly handsome, smart, ALPHA male) bastard but the girl falls in love with him just because of [insert ONE random act here]-
3. "Heroine" is a klutz who trips over nothing - basically a damsel ALWAYS in distress.
4. High school settings -_-
5. Weak immune systems - really? REALLYconfused?
6. Girl runs away while crying, after seeing/hearing a misunderstood conversation/situation (God, I'm so sick of this one).

1. cut fingers + licking. - It isn't so much I'm sick of it, I just.. ew. I hate the thought of sucking someone else's blood, or someone sucking mine, especially finger cuts. i feel repulsed each time and the main lead always blushes instead. dead and why suck the blood, you're just making more come out (i'm cool with vampires tho, they can be cliche, but sucking blood to live is fine)

2. fujoshis. i find it kind of disturbing that the girls are supposedly fantasizing about a person IN THEIR class and drawing/writing R18 stuff about them. o__o the classmates aren't celebrities, they don't exactly go to school everyday because it's their job to pop boners, so that's.. well, kinda disturbing? it's more or less better when the person in question finds it funny, even more disturbing when the person in question finds it gross.

3. when the dude's a hot badboy. i don't actually hate it - it just always starts low on the scale for me but it can get better or worse laugh

4. forgetting what happened or what they said when they were sick. copouuuut!!

5. dude puts up with literally everything from the heroine without ever getting angry at her, only likes her more for all her faults, while she does nothing in return for him and he's ok with it no

May I just add... transfer students.

Honestly, I expect that if I transfer to Japan, a super hot guy will fall in love with me. It's not too much to ask if I'm a transfer student. I mean, everyone knows that transfer students are divine beings blessed with the lucky power of the heavens, right? Manga teaches me this.

And I also very very much hate... "strong heroines".
Note the parenthesis.

A strong heroine, be it emotionally or physically, is fantastic in many ways, and quite rare.

A "strong heroine", however, is a mangaka' s attempt at a strong heroine that you get before Miss Tomboy falls in love and becomes a crying mass of girly hormones. While I understand the emotional sensitivity of a teenage girl, being one myself, I am constantly annoyed with the inconsistent character who always has the wrong personality switched on.

Edit: oh, and I forgot the fact that nobody in manga can swim or drive, resulting in a heroine' s near-drowning and, let's not forget all those hit by cars.

The clumsy heroine annoys me. I mean you can only trip over your feet and fall on your dream guy so many time.

Another one is the not just domestically challenged but overall challenged. Not good at school, cant cook, cant clean, no friends etc. but is magically cured when dream guy comes along.

The constantly insecure about her relationship heroine even after dream guy proves time and again that he loves her,

1. story beginning with the girl going to high school and determined to find a boyfriend....seriously what do they take school for

2. dumb girls that ALWAYS gets the lowest marks in tests and coincidentally gets the typical hot, smart guy to tutor them.....so that she can drool over him for the rest of the plot

3. the emphasized smart girl at school, yet does NOTHING that shows she is actually smart

4. "i hate you/ i will never fall for you" next minute, BAM! "why is my heart beating so fast!?!?"

5. love at first sight, then starts bothering the male non-stop

6. overhearing a piece of conversation and then getting all depressed and sorry for themselves, not only that they have to "accidentally" dropped something so that the male lead knows that she is here and runs after her and blah blah blah

7. male constant rejecting her, yet she still sticks her nose at his business and gets hurt for ten trillion times just because she loves him

8. Clumsy, klutz who can miraculously turns everything into a disaster....can even walk without tripping...like, seriously?

9. self-proclaimed "man-haters" that falls in love after seeing the guy did *insert random something*

10. playboys that does "it" with almost everyone, and the heroine just have to fall for him when there a so many great guys outside

11. guy got interested just because the girl slapped him and thinks "it's the first time that girl has dah dah dah me.." makes me question whether this "jerks" have ever met a female

"I've never had a boyfriend, or more accurately, a friend of any kind for all 16 years of my life."

*10-15 chapters later*

"Now I have the hottest guy in school as my boyfriend, and a single day spent without my fabulous friends is agonizing torture!"

I really hate the stepsiblings cliche. The agony over if it's incest or not and what would people think?!

female and male fights (or have a misunderstanding)
another male enters, comforts the females, gets close

How about the many times where the male main gets lost with the girl you're rooting for (not always the girl he goes for though...though it posses me off last time it happened) in the woods and has to spend the night with her (never sex, but often ecchi) only to find out in the morning that their destination was just over the hill or behind the abandoned building they were staying in? Does that kind of annoy yet on another level entertain anyone else?
