List, discuss and recommend your favorite survival horror games here!

My favorites are the Resident Evil series, Fatal Frame series and Silent Hill series.

Each of these have different scare tactics. RE is the least scariest to me being that you have fire arms and tangible enemies. In Fatal Frame you are a little girl with a camera up against intangible evil vengeful ghosts. Silent Hill....nightmare creatures and ghosts and the fact I don't really felt I've won after the game is over.

It's alllll about RE. I don't actually play [LOL], but I LOVE RE. I've been watching my brother play the different games for years and I swear I never get tired of it. I can't wait till RE 5 is out~~!!!

You should play. biggrin If you are too much of a wuss you can always play the re-play game with the rocket launcher. It's very fun. Can'twait for 5 either.

That being said, Fatal Frame is the only game that required several ( 3 ) players in a single player game in case one is too busy pissing in pants and the other screaming like a girl. Good thing is you are treated to great ending sung by Tsukiko Amano in 2 and 3. Can't wait for 4. biggrin

One day...one day, I will play RE for myself. I am too much of a wuss cuz RE has weird controls and then I start freaking out laugh A little while back, I tried to play my own game, but then I had to keep asking my older sis for help cuz I didn't know what to do laugh But I'm smarter now [hopefully], so maybe I'll play my own game soon.

Fatal Frame sounds pretty interesting...what system is it for?

Yeah, RE is the game for this genre.

Anyone else ever play Siren? That was pretty weird/freaky.

Yeah fatal frame is much much more creepy and scary than any other... The feeling of just having a camera vs a real weapon to fight with doesn't help...
I'm not a huge fan of the survival horror genre. But I do enjoy playing them when the conditions are there. (meaning pulling an allnighter on the game with a thunderstorm outside, simply an awesome experience)
I did not play any Silent Hill game except the first one though... I really didn't like the first one, so I didn't bother with the others.

@otakubaybay, lol my sisters do that to... they like to watch me play, specially the final fantasy games. But they rather not play because they find all the leveling up tedious.

I got the series for PS2. There's also releases for X-box. Here's a site about it.

Heard about it, never played it. It's the one with the live action characters right?

...So in Fatal Frame you play a little girl with a camera? confused
This is probably one of my favorite video game genres. If the video game scares the crap out of me, that basically means it's a good game to me laugh It would be awesome to play during a thunderstorm!!! smile wink grin

Yeah, leveling up is something I kind of dread when it comes to video games smile It takes forever and I usually give up halfway through bigrazz (like when you raise your chao in Sonic Adventure Battle 2 or like in any of those Poke'mon adventure games).

I remembered a game in this genre not yet mentioned...!!! Eternal Darkness. I've always wanted to watch my bro play, but the one time he played it, he was just borrowing it and his friend was over so I didn't want to disturb them. All I saw was one moment and it...Freaked. Me. Out. It was the part when they show the chick go into the bathroom and she sees herself dead in the bathtub. That was so scary eek Wait a sec...is this game in this genre? I'm not really sure seeing as I only saw a second of it bigrazz

What about House of Dead? specially the ones on the actual arcade machines. I find them quiet fun to play.

Oh yeah I forgot about that, I always felt it was more of a shooter ( Must be the first person view.) but it was fun. The last boss was cheesy though. I had the Dreamcast version...like I'm gonna try and beat that at an arcade. bigrazz

What makes a good scare game would be its mysterious feel to it.

For example, not that I don't like the RE series but, RE certainly has that we all know the lab screwing around with whatever it was they were doing there that led to a very large amount of innocent peeps turning into zombies if not monsters.

Somehow, you know the cause of it all and if you dealt with that, problem solved, right? Every series just gets you to survive that ordeal but not solve it entirely. That way, they can prolong the game with sequels which still gets you to the point of not really getting to solve but just surviving once more.

On the other hand, having supernatural elements in the game would really haunt the day lights out of you. Aside from things that you can't explain like, how come do these ghosts haunt this place? Why can't it be someone else who has to go through all these scary stuff? Or perhaps, why is it that I don't have combat skills, at least some that could disable floating aparitions? (Yeah, bad joke smile )

A depth in history within the game is also a nice touch for horror games since unraveling mysteries just gets it more interesting.

So there was this blinding mask that they use for the ritual, eh?

So that's why they call it Silent Hill...

or some other stuff that you can say..

In any case, all games stick to the same stuff of having to survive and killing everything along the way that doesn't help you at all. Like those shoot'em up games laugh the only difference would be the treatment and the setting for that matter.

Anyway, as for the initial post, I haven't played the first but certainly had finished every ending in each Silent Hill up to the fourth. Style to get some ordinary individual to go through such an ordeal is really interesting and getting them uniquely connected from each other without it being obvious. Did the game clarify anything or the film just went with supplying the gist of it all...

Fatal Frame is again another nice game since they did mention that it was based from real incidents. Why wouldn't you get scared of that?! confused Well, the first one was the only game that I was able to play, the rest went while I couldn't.. Of all things to be equiped with, it had to be a camera that can hurt ghosts? Well, that's something new bigrazz

Too bad I ain't that updated anymore with such games I use to enjoy..

Hmmm, the ones at the arcade ain't that scary but more of exciting since let the enemies be monsters to zombies or just against a group of men in varied colored uniforms of their own, you still shoot them down..

LOL we had 5. laugh Fatal Frame for me is the best horror game there is. i especially like Fatal Frame 1 VERY creepy atmosphere. while playing, all five of us jumped out off our seats when my brother opened the door laugh I even had my dad play it since he likes these kinds of games and he actually had cold sweat while sitting in-front of a 16 degree air conditioner while playing laugh laugh

Resident Evil was my first survival horror game, which I played and ended in a few hours. smile Then Silent Hill, Forbidden Siren... lately, I've tried Rule Of Rose (here in Italy it created such a great fuss... :S), but didn't like it that much. Right now I'm searching for a couple of survival-horror games for pc (well, just "horror" would be fine, too) but cannot find anything. Would you help me? sad
