Was one of the first to seriously use CG in his manga, mainly for backgrounds and screentone.
As a kid he grew up reading works of MOCHIZUKI Mikiya, MATSUMOTO Leiji and Monkey Punch. He worked at a Yuzen-style dyeing company in Kyoto for a while before studying under cartoonist AOYAGI Yusuke and MAMIYA Seiji at the age of 17, he made his debut in 1978 in Shounen King magazine. Later, he won an award in Young Jump 4th Youth Manga Award with his entry, "Angels."
MINEGISHI Nobuaki, HAYASHI Hikaru, NAKA Masato and KAKUU Masaru are former assistants.
