Sakabashira Imiri is active as a manga author, a painter, and a designer of figurines derived from his comics. His first published work was in Garo in 1989. He stands in that alternative manga tradition of dreamwork, first opened by Tsuge Yoshiharu in the late 1960s, characterized by non-sequitur narratives, set amongst architectural and technological elements of the pre-high growth era, and populated with phantasms from the yokai tradition.
