He made his debut with “Hakken!! Tomodachi Inai-inai Bu” in 1995 in Weekly Shounen Jump and received the Akatsuka Award Honorable Mention for best new gag manga writer.

Seikimatsu Leader Den Takeshi! (1997–2002, 24 volumes), was awarded the Shogakukan Manga Award for children category in 2001.
In 2002, he was arrested and convicted of violating child prostitution laws, including paying a 16-year-old girl ¥80,000 to have sex. As a result of the arrest, Seikimatsu Leader Den Takeshi! was cancelled by Weekly Shounen Jump.

Toriko began serialization in Weekly Shounen Jump in 2008 and made into anime in 2009.

Build King serialization was started in 2020.
