Born in Kokura (present-day Kitakyūshū), Fukuoka. Started this career at the age of 16. Mandaraya no Ryouta, his best series, continued for ten years from 1979 through 1989 which was also dramatized for NHK TV show in 1986. Died of abdominal aortic aneurysm on June 13, 2012.
