He was active in the anime magazine "Fanroad" before his professional debut

While still attending college in 1994, he received Hop☆Step Award for oneshot version of Oni ga Kitarite.

After graduating from Niigata University he moved to Tokyo, and studied under Watsuki Nobuhiro.

He died of heart failure on May 26, 2002.

Oda Eiichiro fellow Watsuki’s disciple, called him Gagin niisan (Big brother Gagin). The cover page layout of chapter 233 on the 25th volume of One Piece is colored black instead of the usual white to honor his passing.

A character based on him appeared on Getsuyoubi no Rival - Mega Hit Manga Gekitou-ki by Ito Mikio.

Kiyu was once his assistant.
