How do I use colors in a forum post?

You can use colors by using the [color] tag. You can specify a common English name color, like "red" or "blue", or you can specify a RGB (Red Green Blue) character code like #000000 (black) and #FFFFFF (white).

Example:

[ color=blue ]hello[ /color ] (without the spaces)

hello

How do I add an image to my forum signature?

You can edit your signature by editing your profile. You can access it from your User CP by clicking on "Edit Profile" on the Control Panel or by clicking here.

In the signature box, you can add an image by using the [img] tag.

You would do this by specifying the location of the image in URL form:

[ img ]http://www.yourdomain.com/image.jpg[ /img ] (without the spaces)

  • Must be short so that it doesn't take up a large amount of space... between 1-300 pixels please.
  • Must not contain questionable content. See the forum rules for more information.

In a forum post, how do I quickly link to a series, mangaka, or scanlation group?

Here at MangaUpdates, we support several special BBCode tags not found elsewhere.

For Manga
You may do so by using the [m] tag. The [m] tag tries to find the series in our database. If it does, it will replace the series name with a link to the series page. The series name must match either the main name of a series or one of the associated names, or else this tag will not work (does not need to be capitalized the same way).

Example:

[ m ]Naruto[ /m ] (without the spaces)

produces:

Naruto

For Mangaka/Authors
This works the same as the manga tag, except by mangaka/author name. The tag used for this is the [a] tag. As with manga, the mangaka/author name you write must match one that exists in our database. The name does not need to be capitalized the same way as in the database.

Example:

[ a ]ADACHI Mitsuru[ /a ] (without the spaces)

produces:

ADACHI Mitsuru

For Scanlation Groups
As with the manga or mangaka/author tag, we even have a special tag for scanlation groups (although used less often). The tag used is the [g] tag. Again, the group needs to exist in our database and capitalization does not matter.

Example:

[ g ]AquaStar Fansubs[ /g ] (without the spaces)

produces:

AquaStar Fansubs

I noticed that someone on the forums is being a complete *****. What do I do?

One thing you can try doing is reporting his/her post. Near the upper right of the post, there is a link titled "Report". This will allow you to report a specific post to the admins. Please also give a specific reason why you think admin action will be necessary.

We will look at the report and act accordingly. If you have a more pressing concern, you are free to PM any of the admins. We'll be happy to consider your issue.

I found a post/comment containing spoilers or offensive language. What should I do?

Please use the "Report Post" feature by clicking on the "Report" link near the upper right of the post. Insert a reason and submit the form. An admin will take care of it as soon as possible.

If it is as series comment in question, you will need to fill out the Change Request form which you can find in your User CP or by clicking here. Please tell us the name of the series where the comment was made, the username of the person who made the comment, and why you believe admin action needs to be taken for that comment.

On other forums, I've seen people have custom user titles. Can I get one here too?

Yup, you can! Just go to your User CP and click Edit Profile (and of course make sure you're logged in first). See where it says "Forum Title"? Just enter your custom forum title!

How do I update/make a user profile?

You can edit your profile from your User CP by clicking on "Edit Profile" on the Control Panel or by clicking here.

Here, you can do things such as changing your email or password, adding some personal information, change some forum settings, and creating a forum signature and avatar.

What does subscribing to a forum thread do?

Sometimes, you wish to keep track of where a forum thread goes. Because they are ordered by the date of the last post, it may be hard to find a certain thread you are looking for. To subscribe to a thread, simply click the "Subscribe to this topic" button at the top of that thread. You can find all subscribed threads in your User CP.

Can I upload pictures to the forum?

No, we do not allow you to upload photos. However, you can still post photos if you upload them to somewhere else, such as http://imageshack.us/ or http://photobucket.com/

To post a image on a forum post, you need to specify the URL for the image and then add the [img] bbcode. An example is as follows:
[ img ]http://www.yourdomain.com/image.jpg[ /img ] (without the spaces)

How do I post a URL?

Well, if you copy and paste a URL directly, our forum will automatically link it
For example:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/

However, if you want to create a link where the words are something like this:
MangaUpdates

Here's how to do it (just take off all those extra spaces):
[ url = http://www.mangaupdates.com/ ] MangaUpdates [ / url ]
