New Poll - Many Groups, One Series
Summer has started for me, and here's a poll to knock it off~

This one's by our member JohnHomos (wow, 2 in a row?). The poll itself is interesting in the views of scanlators and how they work...(Although just to note, joints between groups can be difficult depending on the people and how they work)

You can discuss this poll on our forums here:

And if you got any interesting poll ideas, please submit them here:

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Doujinshi?
I draw doujinshi - votes: 347 (2.8%)
I love to see my favorite characters in lewd situations - votes: 6675 (53%)
I only like non-sexual doujinshi - votes: 983 (7.8%)
I don't like / don't read doujinshi - votes: 3344 (26.5%)
What's a doujinshi? - votes: 1255 (10%)
There were 12604 total votes.
The poll ended: June 13th 2009

I dunno if the results of this could be called good or bad...What has our society come to?

It's hard for me to choose just one. I guess you could say it's good for different speed or quality standards, but the speed scanlation will essentially be made obsolete as soon as the quality one comes out. Competition CAN be good to motivate both groups to work hard, but unfortunately it often leads to immature drama and attempted sabotages on the Internet. The next two feel sort of related. Combining efforts is a good idea in theory, but it can be very difficult to work out a lot of times if the two groups work differently or have different standards. For the last option, I do think the group that does it matters to some extent, because consistency can be nice.

So, in other words, I abstain from this poll due to inability to choose. bigrazz

"I don't care, just give me manga." If you really like Naruto/Bleach/whatever and really want to scanlate it even though it's being done already, go ahead. You have your reasons.

It would be nice if such groups would work out a joint agreement, but a lot of the time egos get in the way, drama ensues, bitter feelings all around, etc. Joints don't always lead to faster or better releases anyway and 99% of joints don't last very long.

I interpreted this poll more towards shoujo manga, because I've seen this happening increasingly. I personally think only one group should do a shoujo manga at a time, because groups who do shoujo manga usually do them in high quality. And if other people want to scanslate the manga, they should just go ahead and join the group that's doing that manga, so that the group can release faster.
It irritates the hell out of me when upstart groups start translating manga that another, more established group has been doing for a while (and they clearly haven't asked permission from the group who started the series). There are *so* many series that were put on hold (or done by groups that eventually dissolved) or not even scanslated that it strikes me as ridiculous that some groups feel the need to do the same series, over and over again...

Much as I dislike multiple groups doing the same series, I chose "good for different standards." One quality group and one speed group working on the same thing is ok with me (although I dislike how speeders tend to simply place themselves in). This would satisfy those who crave speed and those who prefer quality (and those in the middle).
Another situation is where the series is simply plagued with speed groups (aside from the top three series, I'm referring to ones like Mahou Sensei Negima, Fairy Tail, Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles, xxxholic, etc.) where it's really pointless where the quality is the same and it's just the focus on who can do it faster.
Another common situation is when a series suddenly becomes popular due to something like an anime adaption, leading to a surge of speed groups doing the series. This not only leads to situation #2, but it's also disappointing that the less popular stuff gets attention. Not only that, but after doing one or two chapters the group just disappears or stops working on it, talk about dedication to doing what you like. It just ends up being a popularity contest.
The "optimal" situation for readers would theoretically be a single quality and a single speed group on the same series. But from my point of view, it is quite a letdown how many speed groups there are these days.

Wow... That is bad... I like non-hentai doujinshi... With my favorite pairings... I mean, would kissing or sweet love count as hentai? No no, I don't think...
