New Feature - Group Filtering
We finally have a new site feature thanks to the efforts of monkeyvoodoo! Just as you can filter genres, you can now filter groups. So if you don't want to see any of those releases from the hentai groups, just filter them out, and they won't appear on the main releases page. The reason for this is because not every release has an associated series entry that has the correct genre.

To actually filter a group, go to that group's page and check the box labeled "Hide this group's releases on the Releases page." Currently, the feature is in beta (after the many bugs in the last 2 days)... We will soon implement an easier way to do all this via the User CP, but for now, just deal with it.

I saw it. I liked it.
Have you considered a series by series version of it. Using the example of the group which does several series I like but one that just doesn't appeal.

thread

» ne-muhito on August 6th, 2010, 3:29am

A series version would be awesome. I've wanted that for a while now. There are number of series that I don't want to track. I've reviewed it and determined it's not in my interest to read it. However, I still want to see new titles to give them a review so filtering by genre or group doesn't work for that case.

thread

» naikan on August 6th, 2010, 4:30am

Seconded! Or an extension of our personal lists, where we can chose to have all manga we've added to a specific category removed from the releases page (eg. completed manga, custom "ignore" list)

thread

» frios on August 6th, 2010, 10:01am

me too! want this also!

thread

» VawX on August 5th, 2010, 9:18am

well for someone who don't like certain groups projects this really are a nice feature...
"yaoi scanlators" is one thing that i want to rid...
no offense, it's just because i'm a "straight" man...
and some of you who're not old enough for hentai (or simply hate it) can also use this feature...

now the thing that i want to request is the genre filtering (or is it already there but i can't find it?)

thread

» thevampirate on August 5th, 2010, 2:31pm

i filter out Yaoi unfortunately there are a lot of Yaoi doujin that arent marked as yaoi or in the data base that sneak through the filters. this allows me to block groups who do unmarked yaoi.

thread

» VawX on August 6th, 2010, 12:59am

nyahahaha well i'm an idiot indeed...
but sure this feature is really good...

thread

» ayashe on August 5th, 2010, 11:57am

"no offense, it's just because i'm a straight man"? So you can't even bear to see yaoi titles? Having the yaoi titles display with the others, and *gasp* maybe accidentally clicking on one is too much for your straight manhood to handle?

thread

» Cerulean on August 5th, 2010, 12:07pm

LOL

thread

» monkeyvoodoo on August 5th, 2010, 12:40pm

Or they just don't want to waste their time looking through a list of things they won't have any interest in reading.

thread

» kawaiiairbender on August 5th, 2010, 3:27pm

yeah... clicking on hentai is really bothersome to me, so is yaoi and yuri so for me personally yes it is. too much for my straight female i don't want to see that self to handle. :/
i can't bear to click on them yes gracias but I already filter out those genres

thread

» calstine on August 5th, 2010, 9:48am

I can filter hentai, shotacon, lolicon and doujinshi properly! Yaoi, Yuri and smut scan groups are dutiful about genre-marking, but groups like Little White Butterflies are notorious for not doing this properly.

Thank you for all your hard work, MU staff!

thread

» monkeyvoodoo on August 5th, 2010, 12:28pm

It's funny you mention LWB. They're actually solely responsible for me adding this feature.

thread

» Toto on August 5th, 2010, 1:50pm

Most of the releases by Little White Butterflies are not added by the scanlator... and the guy that adds will not add any series.

thread

» Nashrakh on August 6th, 2010, 2:31am

Actually, we at LWB go crazy with the tags on our blog. We do NOT add stuff here ourselves, so don't flip a table over it - it's not our fault. Blame people that don't know how to tag shit.

Besides that, it's nice to see we're so notorious we even get filters implemented.

thread

» monkeyvoodoo on August 6th, 2010, 2:35pm

Glad you're not taking it personally!

Finally, I don't have to rage over yaoi releases being on the releases page beceause they don't know how to set genres.

thread

i know how u fell bro.

and thx MU for ur hard work

thread

» ayashe on August 5th, 2010, 11:59am

I don't know why you'd have to "rage" at all about simply seeing yaoi releases existing, unless you were a bigot.

thread

» monkeyvoodoo on August 5th, 2010, 12:34pm

Since a small number of groups are responsible for a large number of my personal frustrations with the releases page, the filter was added. For me personally, it gets annoying having to sift through titles I may be interested in, only to click through and find there's absolutely no way I'd have any interest in them. And often enough, there's either no genres set, or the ones that are set, are set incorrectly or are insufficient. I don't think the "rage" in this case had to do with a bigoted personality — more just a sense of frustration.

thread

» HumanoidInterface on August 5th, 2010, 4:31pm

I am a bigot, good catch. But that's not why I'm happy about the feature.

Actually, it's because I click on what I expect to be a new series I had never seen before, and bam. Surprise yaoi.

thread

» Ser3n on August 5th, 2010, 11:50am

This is interesting^^
Though what i would like to see is group filter but like, i would like to get notice of all new releases by certain groups =P

thread

» ermo on August 5th, 2010, 1:32pm

I totally agree. Maybe I would like to see something like the genre filtering with colors.

Thx for the new feature.

thread

» ayashe on August 5th, 2010, 12:03pm

I am at least glad you can filter all groups, and not just hentai and yaoi, though I know many hateful people are just going to use it for that reason. I know some just want to make their searching easier, so they'll have a more condensed releases page, but most will just be homophobes. I'm not so close minded that I'll need the feature though. I have no issue with any kind of releases and their groups. I don't mind seeing them exist, or their releases listed.

thread

» monkeyvoodoo on August 5th, 2010, 12:36pm

I don't think it has to do with hatred, if someone is filtering something they don't care about out of a list of things they look through all the time. It's just being efficient.

thread

» thevampirate on August 5th, 2010, 2:38pm

"...though I know many hateful people are just going to use it for [yaoi]....but most will just be homophobes" dude how is it homophobic to not want to see yaoi, I have been scanlating for years but i know that the scanlation world wouldnt be the same without them however i have no interest to read about 2 men having sex. does this make me racist or homophobic? please stop trying to troll bait people.

thread

» kawaiiairbender on August 5th, 2010, 3:34pm

and apparently yes

thread

thread

» kawaiiairbender on August 5th, 2010, 3:29pm

oh okay boo, I do find certain things offensive lolicon/shotacon/hentai/yuri/yaoi so yeah all filtered. guess i'm hateful.

you are close minded if you think that just because someone thinks like you they're hateful and unaccepting though. smile

thread

» Pikapu on August 5th, 2010, 4:40pm

Hmm... the "hafeul" part is very much unneeded and unnecessary. bigrazz
"I don't mind seeing them exist, or their releases listed." - Well, good for you! But other people do mind. That's how the world works~

thread

» monkeyvoodoo on August 5th, 2010, 12:39pm

To add to lambchopsil's post, we're not moving the ability to add a group filter to the User CP. That will stay on the group page (unless Manick decides otherwise). There will, however, be a list of all your filtered groups included on the "Release Filtering" section of the User CP, which will allow you to view and remove the groups you currently have filtered.

thread

» thevampirate on August 5th, 2010, 2:43pm

would it be possible to move it below the genres (but in the same box). So its not in the way, 95% of the groups pages i go to are groups i read and want to get to their IRC/dl page and not to block them. being up front is kind of in the way, and because theres no confirmation page i (or someone else using my computer) might accidentally push it without realizing it.

thread

» monkeyvoodoo on August 5th, 2010, 3:43pm

That's reasonable. It'll go in with my next update.

thanks, and i love the feature great job with it BTW.

I don't suppose you can make a feature that highlights some group's release could you?

thread

» Moon-Angelica on August 5th, 2010, 2:28pm

While I probably won't use this feature I wondered if there is a possible extension to it where you can highlight a group's releases? There are a few group of which I will read pretty much all of there releases but may not have new series on the Wish List etc so occasionally miss their releases when I'm in a hurry (or being lazy and not reading the whole list). Being able to highlight would be quite handy ^^

thread

» shad974 on August 8th, 2010, 3:21am

I'd second that too.
This new feature (aka hide a group release) is nice but I would like to highlight them too when they are nice.

thread

» kawaiiairbender on August 5th, 2010, 3:31pm

I don't think I'll be using this because I already use filters but you know what a nice feature would be a better search function. Like if you could search specific forums.

thread

» InZane on August 5th, 2010, 4:06pm

Did something happen to the search function?
I Can no longer find Kaichu! when I search but if I search for the author I can find it.
I'm not sure if there is other mangas that can't found.

thread

» lambchopsil on August 5th, 2010, 5:58pm

Coooool beeeeeaaaaaans.

thread

» themasterwarlord on August 5th, 2010, 5:04pm

Well, this update isn't bad. But can I ask for a series filter for the next update? Because sometimes there are titles that you just don't want to read at all, never ever, (e.g. naruto for me. And please don't judge me on this, thanks) and it's kind of annoying to see them over and over again on the releases page when you're browsing them.

Just a suggestion.

thread

» Akillarian on August 5th, 2010, 7:29pm

There are groups who translate more than just one genres. Their works may include yaoi, yuri, shoujo, and shounen, and the occasioinally shota.

I'm more interested in the feature that give you notice if your favourite groups give out releases. I don't read much anymore. I usually only try new series if my favourite groups release them, or from my favourite mangakas.

thread

» phae2y on August 5th, 2010, 10:07pm

awesome new features. 200 feed items and this biggrin
now if you guys could add the irc-style red line marker/bolded entries like in tokyotosho, the release page would be perfect.

thread

» phae2y on August 5th, 2010, 10:23pm

oh, and also maybe you guys can integrate the filtering system into the feeds? >_>

thread

» monkeyvoodoo on August 6th, 2010, 12:19am

I've wanted this for a long time. I'll be looking into it. No promises, though.

thread

» Evi|pigeon on August 7th, 2010, 10:25am

I support this feature. And the red line too.

200 rss feeds is awesome enough but this will be triple double awesome or better.

Now to get rid of those H-groups biggrin

thread

» Nashrakh on August 6th, 2010, 4:57am

I always wondered why this site includes H material in the first place.

thread

» icassop on August 6th, 2010, 5:50am

Uh, why not? Or do you want a separate updates site for H stuff only? I think people who read both non-H and H stuff would not be so delighted if it got separated. Besides, if you don't like H stuff, you can now filter out any H groups and also any H genres. I don't really see the problem here o_O
It's become all very convenient imo. Btw all those features are much appreciated~ So thank you!

thread

» Nashrakh on August 6th, 2010, 6:39am

I don't have a problem, but seeing all this bitching about how godawful H groups are supposed to be... yeah. But with the new feature, you can all enjoy your pornless weeaboo.

thread

» gwengwel on August 6th, 2010, 4:29pm

Sorry in advance if someone already ask this question but I didn't see it.
If a manga has multiple genres, like yaoi/shoutacon/fantasy and I block fantasy (yeah I know that a lot more of people tend to block yaoi or shotacon but I'm a assumed pervess loll) , can I still see this manga because of the other 2 genres?

thread

» Toto on August 6th, 2010, 7:20pm

If you block a genre, it blocks all series that have that genre regardless to what other genres the series has.

Though, if you have a series on your lists that has said blocked genre on it, the series will be allowed onto the release page.

thread

I like this! Thanks!

Do you have an option like with color filters for different genres that could be also applied to favorite mangakas?

thread

» MarinLiliz on August 8th, 2010, 2:38pm

Nice feature but I'm wondering if doing the opposite would be too complicated. I mean, instead of filtering out every group I don't follow (that's hundreds for me), filtering in the few groups I do follow. Or if it's simpler, have a marker on the groups I follow like the markers on the series (like the reading/complete/wish list markers) because sometimes on a page full of new releases a few titles do get by.

Anyway, thank you for the hard work and keep it upsmile

thread

» lessaandflar on August 8th, 2010, 3:25pm

I found an issue. I was trying to block two different groups from the release page, but a release that they worked on jointly still appeared. It seems that the joint release over rules the blocking of their releases. It's really easy to test too. Find a joint release, block both scanlation group

thread

» killercool on August 23rd, 2010, 8:59pm

I just discovered this problem myself. I thought it was because the group that i have blocked did the joint with somehow doesn't have a group page. And it was, once again, one of those sneak-attack yaoi releases...
