Happy New Year! And New Poll - TV Drama Based on Manga/Anime
First off, Happy New Year! Even though technically it isn't January 1st year for me or the official site time, might as well lump this post along with the new poll, right? Besides, it's the new year for a lot of the world by now...

This week's poll comes from the mind of our member zweeb. Going on with last week's poll on "drama," here's another one of a different kind. Have you watched any TV dramas based on manga/anime? They can be any of any origin (like I know Hana Yori Dango has Taiwanese, Japanese, and Korean TV dramas).

You can discuss this poll on our forums here:

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):

Previous Poll Results:
Question: How much drama do you want in a series with romance?
A whole lot - votes: 1460 (10.3%)
Just enough to make it interesting - votes: 10225 (72.2%)
Barely any - votes: 1454 (10.3%)
None at all - votes: 242 (1.7%)
I don't read/care about romance - votes: 781 (5.5%)
There were 14162 total votes.
The poll ended: December 31st 2011

Typical results... Seems most of us read romance though!

I don't really watch Asian dramas, but I have a feeling that they are a Korean territory when it comes to quality.

What's Korean Quality?

I've seen a lot of Japanese Dramas, and many are of the very highest-quality. The ones that tend to be low-quality are typically those based on manga/anime, or those that aim for a similar feel to anime.

Yup, that's exactly it. There are lots of really good original Japanese dramas on their own, but of what I've seen, most of the ones based on manga or anime end up lame/cheap-feeling. To me at least.

Well, on the moment my wish list on Mangaupdates is to long, maybe I watch some, after finishing it.

i've seen the Korean and Taiwanese production of Hana Yori Dango which are quite good (I haven't seen the Japanese yet) mmm...
well, most of them are from shoujo manga though after all, i don't read that many of shoujo mmm...

I watched Jin drama, and it's perfect, thought never read the manga XD
Arakawa Under The Bridge was really good drama, and that one I can compare with the manga since I read the manga.

Jin is a manga?! I had no idea.

» vietangelix on January 1st, 2012, 8:21pm

Woo~another year full of manga :]
I used to, but watching drama is a bit too time-consuming when I already know what happens, haha.

HYD also has a bootleg chinese version... lol

I do watch them sometimes. Some are great; Nodame Cantabile(super amazing), It Started With A Kiss(so endearing), Meteor Garden S1. Some are good; HYD, Goong, and Gokusen s1. Some are okay like Mischievous Kiss. And some are terrible, Boys Over Flowers (too bad this is clearly the highest quality production of the adaptations.)
