New Poll - Setting
The inspiration for this week's poll comes from our member nowyat. Some of you will probably get mad that your specific favorite setting wasn't included, but just choose one of the given options. There's bound to be one choice that you like a lot!

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related). We also welcome holiday-related poll ideas!
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Do you prefer reading about platonic or romantic relationships?
Choices:
Platonic - votes: 1186 (9.8%)
Romantic - votes: 6673 (55.3%)
Doesn't matter - votes: 3743 (31%)
No relationships at all - votes: 465 (3.9%)
There were 12067 total votes.
The poll ended: December 22nd 2012

Some of you may call it a narrow-minded poll, but oh well. Not like we're conducting research with all this. And I couldn't make the poll more specific without making the poll itself very wordy

I voted "Future mixed with fantasy" but my real favourite is "Apocalyptic Mixed with Fantasy", which is not quite the same as Apocalyptic...

Same here, I ended up picking "Modern mixed with fantasy", because my absolute favorite stories usually have that background. But I like a lot of stories with the other two fantasy options and Steampunk too. And to top it off most of the stuff I read actually takes place at school, so yeah XD

no particular setting preference..but generally I read lots of post-apocalyptic manga, near the ocean and school/workplace manga

Contemporary Fantasy is the type of fiction I enjoy the most.

So I would go with the most closest one "Modern mixed with fantasy". Its interesting to see the supernaturals happening in the current time.

I'd love to choose more than one. Since my fav categories are Workplace Romance and School Life xD

Moooo... It's too hard to choose!
I do dislike most school settings though, and prefer nothing to do with high school stories.
The workplace (especially an office) would be a close second, since the setting tends to be static and boring.
That said, I've enjoyed a number of stories set in these categories.

Favorites would probably be - village, apocalyptic/apocalyptic mixed with military and historical.

I'm actually a sucker for historical settings. Historical mixed with fantasy is awesome too.

I wanted an "ANYWHERE but a damn school" option.

It seems EVERYTHING is related to a high school these days.

I chose historical mixed with fantasy because ofRurouni Kenshin

I second that.

That said, some of the choices are really silly. "Near the ocean"? "Big city"? "Workplace"? Really?? "Workplace"confused

Post-apocalyptic is always nice... along with historical mixed with fantasy. I love rural village or the countryside too ><

Big city or apocalyptic.
I can't believe so many people like the school theme. It's fucking stupid and over used. With crap like huge, bulky middle school "delinquents" that are the size of an adult body-builder. Every one of them has the same kind of cast of characters, but slightly different (loli girl, class president or whatever, big tits girl, tsundere person, student counsel, childhood friend, etc.). Then there's the "first day if high school" crap. I suppose the school theme is meant for children after all. They're the only ones who can be entertained by recycled shounen garbage. no

I voted for Steampunk because I liked that era of feel in "Warehouse 13". A would say that "Bioshock" is also a contributer, but that series is considered Dieselpunk. I could have also chosen Military because of my love for "Stargate". Other than that, nothing really jumped out at me.

I was about to say that I thought Apocalyptic would have been a lot more popular until I saw so many comments putting it in second place. To be specific, I like post apocalyptic settings best. The phase where people are rebuilding or have rebuilt. It is always nice to see how that world views the world we live in, what survives the destruction and the passage of time.

Historical Fiction for me. What I mean by historical fiction is things like Yume no Shizuku, Ougon no Torikago and Otoyomegatari.

I feel like historical fiction is a little push for more originality and if a mangaka seriously does the research then it'll be great (especially if it's based on a history of another country). Nothing like those lame "into the past and become the heroine" stuff except for Red River. It was a theme too overused by watase yuu and i feel like she beat it like a dead horse until it wasn't original anymore....though it would just be that I don't particularly like watase yuu after having discovered a whole gallery of much more amazing mangas on display in the online manga world.

School is really cliche if it's a shoujo manga and I'm guessing most of the votes are from shoujo readers.

There's too many choices I wanto to pick.

I like an amalgam of different settings.

Of all the lovely options out there, "school" is the one most picked. You people are so dull... laugh

It's interesting that no one that posted in this thread was pro school, i don't know how such a boring setting got first place...

It is kind of typical and I guess we'd all think "been there, done that." I actually really like the setting though. My absolute favorite is fantasy/supernatural ones but I've been in school for a long time and that is the setting I am most familiar with.

Its not anymore boring than any other setting can be. What really matters is how its used just like any troupe setting or archetype character. Even the one's like apocalyptic and historical are overused especially in western comics and everything has been done at this point which is why they become troupes.

Anyway I revived this topic because I want another one of these. I didn't get to participate in this one.
