New Poll - Spoilers
This week's poll comes from nowyat. Let's pretend you somehow had knowledge of a spoiler for an anime or manga and no one else in the world knew about it. Assume that this spoiler is bigger than Harry Potter dying, or Snape kills Dumbledore, or "Luke, I am your father" (misquote on purpose), or the Red Wedding. (Side note, but if you don't know even one of the above references... Please, get out of the rock you're hiding under). Anyways, the poll is about what you would do with such knowledge. There's even a "Don't care" option that isn't worded as "Don't care"! Hopefully that appeases the lot of you...

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)

Question: Which pisses you off the most?
When multiple groups scanlate the same series - votes: 446 (3.4%)
When a group has too many projects and releases are slow for the series you read - votes: 1261 (9.7%)
When a good series stops being scanlated because it's not popular - votes: 3387 (26%)
When a good series stops being scanlated because the group closed - votes: 784 (6%)
When you start a series and then find out: Last Release (1000d ago). Completely Scanlated: No - votes: 4769 (36.6%)
People who ask: "When will the next chapter be released?" - votes: 544 (4.2%)
Speed scanlations - votes: 146 (1.1%)
When scanlation stops due to a Cease & Desist - votes: 470 (3.6%)
People making money off scanlations - votes: 1233 (9.5%)
There were 13040 total votes.
The poll ended: October 26th 2013

This poll sure sparked a lot of debate and discussion. Do people even care about speed scanlations anymore? Doesn't seem like it...

Depends what it's a spoiler from.

If it's from something like Bleach, make sure it gets spread as much as possible. if it's from something good instead, then curse myself because I hate spoilers.

» ichigo_daisuki on October 26th, 2013, 1:24am

I picked the "Don't care" option, lol laugh.

» RoxFlowz on October 26th, 2013, 2:34am

If I really like the series, I would curse myself until the end of time...
Picked blackmail though, just for teh lulz.

"Discretely tell a known loudmouth so that they spoil the world and can take the blame"

Sounds like a very good idea laugh

» SinsI on October 26th, 2013, 3:34am

I'd openly tell the contents of that spoiler - but present them as speculation.

Quote from SinsI
I'd openly tell the contents of that spoiler - but present them as speculation.

I like this idea.

I picked the "tell a known loudmouth" option though. Maybe I'm just mean, but it sounds like it could be fun.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Until they tell someone that it was me who told them.

It's a tie b/n not being proactive and telling people who don't mind being spoiled (hence threads that are specifically for spoilers and such)

Chose don't mind being spoiled b/c if it's good especially for a manga that's been dropped or for a manga that's inactively being scanned, I'd want to tell ppl the ending of the story.

Recently I came across one that I spoiled a long time ago b/c the manga was taking too long to update and I just happened to find it after it was inactive. It's been a few years since it's been inactive as well and I'm glad I spoiled it since it was a drama stricken manga with a little "family" mystery.

» SilverStorm on October 26th, 2013, 11:28am

I would tell people who want to know... but I really didn't want to know in the first place. (Unless it's killing me with suspension.)

» nakie08 on October 26th, 2013, 12:34pm

"Curse yourself because you hate spoilers, and now it's too late"
This if I really like the anime/manga. Otherwise I'd sell the info xD

» kitty1826x on October 27th, 2013, 2:27am

I found some of the options a bit comical this time. I was torn between 'Blackmail the creators of the anime/manga that you know their secret' and what I picked 'Only tell a couple of trusted friends'. Which that was the closest to what I would do; tell my husband. (Who wouldn't care, but I felt like telling someone)

-Sidenote: I always think of Dr. Who whenever I hear/see the word spoilers.

"Harry Potter dying", "Snape kills Dumbledore"
Great. Thanks. Just wanted to finish reading the series. none

» AceBunneh on October 28th, 2013, 10:31am

Hm.. Apparently I live under a rock. Cool, I never knew. :3 I shall hollow it out and be a crab from now on. ^-^

In other news, I would blackmail and sell, and take advantage of everyone I could with the knowledge. Or, if I couldn't, then I'd just not bother and wait for it to come out, and when it does I'll go "I knew it!" and everyone will look at me like I'm full of **it to cover up that I actually knew what was going to happen. :3

» drunkguy on October 28th, 2013, 5:10pm

I'd be more than happy to sell the secret if I could do it discreetly and had actual proof. I'd avoid blackmail though. Such things tend to become too personal.

» KaoriNite on October 28th, 2013, 11:58pm

I'm the type of person who doesn't even like reading descriptions all the way because I think they give away too much information.

In my fantasy world, I'd get rid of the spoiler. I'd "take care" of the people who were spreading the spoiler, erase/delete/burn all of the evidence that a spoiler even existed, and then have my memory erased.

IRL I'd stop reading the manga until I could forget the spoiler.

@AceBunneh apparently I am also a hermit crab.

» mubotter1 on October 29th, 2013, 3:38am

This is something almost all scanlators deal with every week

» Necrophades on October 30th, 2013, 7:12pm

My answer to the current poll:
I won't believe it! or to be precise, I won't take it wholly.

From the quantum perspective, a spoiler is just one of many possibility that might happen. El Psy Congroo.
