New Poll - 2014 FIFA World Cup
As MewMan reminded me, I really should have done this poll last week, but I forgot... The poll only contains the countries that haven't yet been eliminated. However, by the time you vote in the poll, it's entirely possible your top choice is already gone... We did a similar poll 4 years ago, and the top picks by MU were Brazil, Germany, and Spain (in that order). Let's see what happens this time!

And for all you people who don't care about soccer/football, too bad.

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results
Question: Where do you live?
Choices:
Metropolis (> 5m population) - votes: 1743 (15.4%)
City (1m - 5m) - votes: 2130 (18.8%)
City (500k - 1m) - votes: 1249 (11%)
City (100k - 500k) - votes: 2066 (18.3%)
Town (50k - 100k) - votes: 1174 (10.4%)
Town (10k - 50k) - votes: 1337 (11.8%)
Town (5k - 10k) - votes: 683 (6%)
Rural (< 5k) - votes: 922 (8.2%)
There were 11304 total votes.
The poll ended: June 21st 2014

I'm actually surprised. This is more evenly spread out than I expected. My guess was that the higher population choices would have many more votes, but I guess not...

What do you mean? It's the correct meme. Also, I could care less as well. I don't think many manga readers are avid soccer/football or sports fans in general.

thread

» Nekore on June 22nd, 2014, 6:05pm

It isn't that manga readers are avid football fans, it's that many countries are and there's a bug that infects you with a bit of emotion towards it even if you're not a big fan

thread

Nah, the background is an old American tv show, so it's safer to say that this meme is for American football rather than soccer. That's all.

thread

» regularsharp on June 28th, 2014, 3:31pm

That scene is from the Academy Award winning (Best Picture) American film, 'The Sound of Music', based on the Broadway musical of the same name. The film was set and shot in Austria.

The actress herself is English, and in fact, has been knighted by Elizabeth II. She's a Dame.

While I don't doubt that the picture was intended for American football, it fits the situation. Saying otherwise is silly.

That's all.

I'd say Netherlands and Germany look like the strongest team at the moment. I see the WC being in one of their hands~ Brazil has been too sloppy for me.

I want to see Colombia make it far. ;-; <3

Edit: Aw, people are actually voting for USA. It's good to dream so big! :3

thread

» Nekore on June 21st, 2014, 5:42pm

dreaming or just not knowing, at the beggining Brazil and Argentina were strong candidates and the only reason I can't spot thinking (not wanting) they could win it's because I'm not trusting the referees.
most strong teams aren't doing very good so I'm rooting for the weak teams and expect that a new country reach the cup

Everyone just votes for their own (or a neighbour) country... (I'm not so happy with this poll, because it's obvious that the largest country with most MU-fans will win it.)

I hope the final winner has less than 3% votes then I might laugh. I know one thing this wc has and will have a lot of surprises.

thread

» phae2y on June 21st, 2014, 1:48am

Three teams that's really impressed me this WC are Germany, Netherlands and France. The romantic in me would love for Netherlands to finally win the World Cup, but Germany and France might be more likely due to their experience. Between them, I like France the best so I voted for them.
Allez les Bleus!

I didn't put so much atention to their game... was it good? I could only get mad at watching how much they depend on naturalization

thread

Voted Belgium because that's my country, but I don't see them winning it at all even though a lot of people consider us an outsider.
Chile and France have impressed me; Germany and Brazil are obvious choices.

thread

» Nirhtuc on June 21st, 2014, 4:58am

I don't care either, but it's fine that others do. At least this poll isn't religious... or inappropriate. laugh

thread

» Tierra93 on June 21st, 2014, 6:29am

There should be a don't care answer.

thread

» barbapapa on June 21st, 2014, 6:46am

the "I don't care" option is right under ignoring this poll

Remember not to vote for the country you hope will win, but the one you think will win.
I think Brazil have the highest chances, being already a strong team and hosting the event. But Germany made a really impressive debut.

The Chicago Cubs will win the World Series this year, the Detroit Lions will win the Super Bowl, and the United States will win the World Cup.

Oh, you're such a bad boy. I'm in awe and admiration for your gratuitous aggressiveness.

On topic, Germany had a difficult time with Ghana, but they're still one of the most impressive team in the tournament. I hope Italy's adventure won't end this Tuesday...

thread

» MewMan on June 21st, 2014, 9:07am

Netherlands and Germany are likely to make it to the top. And maybe France. Brazil and Argentina don't look that strong tbh. But then again Brazil has the referee as their 12th player.

I would have rather put I don't care, or something along those lines ... but I just put US only because that's the country I live in, so why not vote them?

... but I honestly don't care who wins.

Honestly, even Bakaupdates? Even you??

bigrazz Oh well. Seriously, please add a "I don't watch soccer" option, I really would love to see how many people really care about this!

thread

» Nekore on June 21st, 2014, 5:37pm

It's not that I like or care much "soccer" but in many countries it's a non avoidable topic, I almost didn't watch my country last game but I still heard people blocks away yelling.

thread

» thebopper on June 22nd, 2014, 12:15am

As much as I want the US to go far, I think that Brazil and the Dutch will be the teams to beat when push comes to shove in the coming weeks. The unfinished business factor will be a huge motivator for the Netherlands since the last WC final and I believe that Robin and Robben will lead them to victory on their shoulders if need be if the occasion required.

Brazil will have the hometown crowd and as the Croatia game showed, some officiating going their way as well. But if they can get their form together they'll be deadly and be favorites to win it all imo.

France is going to be in the conversation as well. Looking great offensively.

thread

» Natsuki@ on June 22nd, 2014, 6:00am

The Netherlands because I live there but frankly I do not care about it all. To be honest I would have preferred them to lose in the qualification rounds ;p that way there would be less of a fuss about it.

thread

» barbapapa on June 23rd, 2014, 7:53am

christ people with their passive aggressive "I don't care" bullshit
honestly if you add an "I don't care" to this poll, make sure to add one to every poll from now on because I've lost track of the times I have not cared about a poll here before - with the difference being I didn't announce it to the world

thread

» lihmao on June 26th, 2014, 1:31pm

I live in Brazil, but I voted for Germany, but I also wanted to vote for Netherlands. They are both strong and if I had to chose one to win, it would be Netherlands, since they never won the WC. I'm also truly cheering for all underdogs (you go, Costa Rica!), except Greece. While I kind of cheer for Brazil, I also kind of don't want we to win the WC for political consequences. And maybe because I'm not sure if the team has what it takes?

I wonder how many games people who are criticizing the referee actually watched. I completely agree that the first referee was absurd, but he is not the only one incompetent. There were several others that did help one of the teams.

Anyway, I agree with barbapapa. I don't really care, I don't even like football. But WC is big event that only happens every 4 years AND that's not local, but internacional. So why not, you know, have fun with it while it lasts? If you don't want to, it's fine, just stop being a party pooper because the same way you don't care about the WC, we don't care about your opinion either.

thread

» Nekore on June 26th, 2014, 7:58pm

I know, of course I would mention brazil games but they aren't the only ones with strange jugement, I think that it's between some referees that are chosen for political reasons (mostly those that don't make a referee team) and those who seems to help one team in particular. I supose that a japanese referee should know how to work as is quite a popular sport there.

Netherland and Germany are doing good but just canĀ“t understimate the help that brazil may get considering that if they don't win the cup heads will fall (and that will probably include suicides)

PD: See you on Satuday (chilean here)

it should have been posted also as option for winner: Japan (but only if plays Tsubasa Hozoora with the guys of the golden generation) biggrin
