New Poll - When Start Reading?
As a followup poll to last week, our user Yask suggested we do one on the age you started reading manga. I decided to break it up by schooling rather than exact years, and post-college is just in chunks of decades. You may have called it each level differently (like junior high or secondary school), but it's just a rough estimate.

You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:

For 25 years - votes: 42 (0.4%)
For 26+ years - votes: 322 (3.2%)
There were 10002 total votes.
The poll ended: October 13th 2017

A lot of people are at the 10 year mark. It's interesting how each increment of 5 years (5, 10, 15, 20) all have spikes of voters. Probably because you don't remember the exact year, so you give a rough estimate to the nearest 5th year

Well, we don't have high school here, but I was 16 when I first read a manga, so I'll go with that. 14 when I first watched anime, so still in high school range, apparently.

Back in middle school I got Shonen Jump #1 because it had a free promo blue eyes white dragon. Dont think i really read anh manga after that until high school when the online manga scene exploded a bit. That was around the time death note was translated I think because I borrowed that from a friend and then ended up reading the rest online.

Wow, look at the participation in last week's poll, over 10,000 votes, I'm not sure I've seen one that had more people vote in it.

Yeah, I'm glad this one is grouped like it is, saves me from feeling bad about having to round it off myself cuz I can't remember biggrin

Well I'm an aussie born in the early '50's, who found about manga in the '80's when one was used as packing material with a computer board sent from Japan. I'm not sure how many aussie's knew manga existed back then, but I suspect not a lot although anime was known with astroboy and a few others of that eak around. The 'fun' back then was finding someone to help 'decode' japanese. At least they were usually only gana and kana back then.

Consiously started reading manga when i was about 12 or 13.

On the way back from school i was hit by a motorbike and had to stay in the hospital for a few weeks. My mother bought me a Banzai! magazine (the german version of Shounen Jump) to pass time, i was hooked instantly, the current series where Hunter x Hunter, Naruto, One Piece, Shaman King, Hikaru no Go, YuGiOh and a few others at the time.

I was watching anime on tv at the time, but don't hink i ever read manga before. But afterwards i started buying volumes, got a Banzai! subscription. And got more and more into the medium ...

My parents and my sister read doraemon to me when I was a child. They eventually got tired of reading it all the time so they taught me to read. The first thing I read in my life was Doraemon, at the age of 4... I still love it now at the age of 28.
