New Poll - Read Much?
This week's poll is about bragging rights, and it was suggested by articowl. Who reads the most? Definitely not me. I probably only read like 20 chapters a month.
You can submit poll ideas here
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903
Previous Poll Results:
Question: Do you think romance is better when?...
Choices:
Main protagonist is male - votes: 552 (20.1%)
Main protagonist is female - votes: 653 (23.7%)
Story is told from a third-person POV (e.g., their child) - votes: 145 (5.3%)
Doesn't matter - votes: 1401 (50.9%)
There were 2751 total votes.
The poll ended: August 3rd, 2024 1:14pm PDT
Pretty even split between male vs. female, so it probably doesn't matter too much

Umm...I didn't even know it was possible to count how many chapters you read in a day....let alone a month...Especially since I'm currently a NEET. Even when I was working or in school, I'd still have no way to know how many chapters I'd read in a day. So, you can say it's even worse now.
Hmm. I read more than one manga/manhwa in a day. Probably up to at least ten. Depending on what I have scheduled for the day or how much anime/drama I watch, maybe a little less or maybe more. Some are those that I have been reading but are 10 chapters behind. And others are new releases that I want to read but waited until at least 20+ chapters are out. And then there are those I'm way behind (around 50+ chapters) and read if I don't have anything else to read....
Um...so it's actually really difficult for me to say how many I read in a day...maybe 100-200 chapters? If I say around 150 a day, then it would be about 4,500 chapters a month...
Hahahaha......*sighs* Rather than bragging, it's making me reflect on my life a bit... 😔

Ngl I find it hard to read an average of 167 chapters per day to get above the 5000 number per month.
It implies you mustn't get bored by what you read and you have to constantly find something to read, which is actually harder than reading for 8 or 10 hours a day. You'll obviously have to take breaks and all too.
I don't think it's humanly possible to do it straight for 30 days. You'll want to do something else at some point. That's considering the fact that you don't need to cook and go grocery shopping too. I'm not even mentioning the fact that you need to have the time to read that much.
Even when changing between works, your brain and feelings need to adapt, so you can't just binge 50 different series in a day.
I don't believe it's doable honestly, only if you read a novel with 5000 chapters then maybe you could binge it, but the changing between works needs time, meaning you'll read less chapters each day, making it harder to reach 5000 per month.

I have just finished a 115 chapter webtoon this weekend, and was about to put it on my completed list when I saw this poll. 😂
Well, when I was still in college, and unemployed for almost a year after graduating, I used to be able to marathon 200-300 chapters a day.
But now, as I'm getting busy with my job, I can only read 100-200 chapters in a week at max. Sometimes even less, maybe only 50-100 chapters in a week, when I was busy.

I am reading a few dozens of ongoings and maybe a completed one or two per month, definitely above 100, but doesn't get to 5000

I use tachiyomi to track manga(i set up tracking in website in the future when i get to it) counted 86 the previous month. This is just keeping up with series that i already follow. If i start binging some work(s) it can be a few hundred

Used to read thousands of chapters per month, but I guess it's less than 500 nowadays because of works and stuff mmm...
» articowl on August 5th, 2024, 3:11am
Somewhere between 300 and 1300, I believe. I can read a lot! When I'm busy with uni I read less, but past few days I read like 50 chapters a day. Once I read 1600 chapters in one month. Maybe I should read less and focus on other things.
» AUOdere on August 5th, 2024, 7:33pm
Oof it varies from 50-500...? Depending on how many series I follow get updated and if I find a new series to binge, honestly 🤣
» eccentrrick on August 5th, 2024, 10:10pm
I would definitely say I'm more in the 101-500 chapters per month! I don't think I've ever hit the 5000+ range but that's a dream of mine :3
» LazyReviewer on August 6th, 2024, 3:50am
The chapter count sneaks up on me... I'm guessing I'm not the only one like that.
» toprak on August 6th, 2024, 9:34pm
Naaah, I can't read or watch anything nowadays... Probably 0-10 ch. per month.
» KJacket on August 7th, 2024, 8:29am
Considering that manga chapters come out weekly or once or twice a month, you'd have to be consistently finding new titles to start to get in the hundreds or be reading lots of concurrent titles. It's easy to read 100 chapters when starting a new manga in one sitting but I wouldn't say that on average per month.

If everything I ever picked up had never been dropped by scanlation teams, I'd possibly be barely breaking into the 501-1000 range. I'm following well over 200 ongoing (or at least not fully scanlated) manga, but on average I only get 3-4 chapters per day except for Sundays when Jump comes out and I get an instant +10 per week
So that makes it 3.5 * 30 + 10 * 4 = 145ish chapters on average per month.
101-500 is quite a large range though lol, I guess you were kind of only looking for rough orders of magnitude? I haven't been at under 100 chapters on average per month in probably the last 15 years, but I don't think I've broken 500 chapters per month in the last 10 years, either (since I finished college and got a real job lol). The last time I broke 500 per month was probably my last re-read of One Piece around chapter 700, though if you don't count re-reads then it'd probably be some summer month earlier in college when I just binged a couple completed manga all in one go.

The people who said 5000+ must have been lying, lol.
If we do the math, even if we average low at a chapter taking 10 minutes to read.
Multiply 10 minutes by 5000 chapters, that's 50,000 minutes.
Divide that by 60, and we get approximately 833 hours.
Divide that by 24, and we get 34.72 days
I don't know about you, but I've never encountered a month with over 34 days, and I've also never encountered a human that could stay awake for an entire month without sleeping. 🤣
