In celebration of our 15th anniversary, weβre going to give away 100 $10 gift certificates to Right Stuf International. To participate, you must have been a member on this site for at least 30 days as of noon today (EST), and you must make a post on this news thread between now and 12pm (EST) noon on July 27th. Additional posts do not increase your odds of winning. If your post is deleted due to breaking the rules, then your entry is not valid. I'm interested to see what kinds of crazy topics people come up with to talk about. I will conduct a drawing using a random number generator sometime after, and post the winners' account names. No purchase necessary. This is NOT an advertising campaign. We ask that if possible, you keep this in-house. Itβs for previously registered members only.
If Iβve made a grievous legal mistake in the wording or operation of this drawing, please let me know as soon as possible so I can correct it. As a disclaimer, nothing in this post can be construed as a contract between myself, Lamb, or the MU site with any participants or winners, and we retain the right to alter the scope, rules, etc, at any time.
Thank you!
Manick, Lamb, & the rest of the MU staff

Hopefully you take us on the road of fantastic manga series for another 15 years.
Edit: It's a bit painful but I can't use the gift card because I live in Europe. The transportation cost is higher than the gift card is worth. And Right Stuff International doesn't have any payment option with debit card ( or Paypal ?) And digital manga ( = free shipping) isn't available.
So, I don't want it.

» deadphoenix on July 21st, 2019, 6:00am
I use most of the time local resellers, they don't cover the whole of Europe. And the shipping cost is lower if you purchase in you're own country.
Book Depository has free worldwide shipping. I don't have experience with it, but you find it everywhere on suggestions.

Aggregators may come and go, but I hope MU stays π No need for the gift card here either.

I'm not sure the current number, but all of those are pretty old manga, I bet many people at least don't know what Chobits is mmm...
And what's there in the left of Naruto mmm...~?
You can't even see his/her full face even when you open the header mmm...

To be fair, I don't read them every day, but at least every so often.
Anyway, I do hope this site survives into eternity. The actual aggregators are nice but can just die at any time. So it's really nice to always have mangaupdates to fall back on for discovering which series have updates for me to read. If an aggregator dies, eventually I can see my favorite scanlators congregating to a new one π

I do not frequent the forums as much anymore, but I do have tons of fond memories, from sharing series recommendations to competitively identifying manga series from images to finding the perfect picture for my profile.
Here's to another 15 years, when some of us will bring our children into the fold of the manga community. Haha!

The year is 2019. Another Anime Expo has come and gone, and in its wake, another solemn groan of dissatisfaction rises from the dwindling US fandom. No one expects any news of interest, but some part of them clings to hope. They hold on to the fond memories of their gateway manga, yet remain fearful of new, possibly disappointing series.
Vizimation Press, sole survivor of the anime/manga Franchise Wars, continues to introduce new Japanese media to the ignorant masses, but to no avail. With no way of knowing whether a new show has its basis in manga, or whether international readers enjoyed it, fans cannot follow further adventures on the go, and thus find their interest dwindling ever further.
If only, they find themselves wishing deep within, if only there was a way to find a new manga similar to my favorite. How I wish it was as simple as finding other works by the mangaka, or searching for subjects like "Bespectacled Main Character" or "Female Dominance", or "Reflections on Human Existence". Such a tool would certainly respark the passionate flame I once felt for this medium. The context and reference it would provide for these new, mysterious series being announced would certainly help me to shatter the ambivalence I feel for new things. I could maybe even see how well-received these series have been, and crush the fear of disappointment within myself.
But of course, this remains a pipe dream. These "fans", if they can still be called as such, continue their empty existence. They will never know how close they came to having such a resource, before the administrators decided the complaints about formatting and image uploading weren't worth the hassle of maintaining such a database. Instead, these wayward wanderers will forget such fruitless dreams and find another form of media to consume, such as random cat videos or movie novelizations.
Avoid this isekai at all costs! Keep supporting your friendly neighborhood MU admins!

My goodness! Reading through everyone else's messages has made me quite emotional. I too can't imagine my life without this website. I'm so sentimental about it I even have a screenshot of the layout saved on my computer!
I must've discovered MU around 2005? When I first started reading manga online. I probably come here hundreds of times per month! Until last year I didn't have an account, but recently I started scanlating and it feels so good to post my own releases on here. All these years MU has been a part of me and now finally I feel like I'm a part of MU!
Congratulations on so many years of service to the manga community. As others have said, other sites have come and gone, but MU has always been a constant! I hope MU will continue forever!
I don't think I will able to use the voucher either but that doesn't matter. I just wanted to come and congratulate you guys and express my gratitude for all you've done.
Also, I really enjoy the sidebar poll! It's fun! ^^

I remember young me hopping around trying to read manga, from onemanga to mangafox to kissmanga to batoto to currently, mangadex. Somewhere between mangafox and mangadex I stumbled on MU and was super confused because I couldn't? read anything? Gradually, I realized that this was a convenient listing site and finally made an account haha
Congrats again on the 15 years, and I hope for many more!! This site is super useful for finding old childhood jems or recs for people, so I really appreciate what you guys do!!

Been a member here for two years, but have been using MU's services for a longer time.
I was uptight then about not signing up for an account because I didn't think it was necessary when I was keeping my own tabs on the manga I was reading. Low and behold, the records were lost.
And yet I still didn't sign up either then -- the sheer level of stubbornness I had back then.
Took me a long time to finally create an account and now I can barely fathom why I was so persistently set against one.
MU has helped me organize and keep track of all the manga I've kept in contact with and whatnot since then, so I'm immensely thankful for that. Also interesting to read reviews every now and then and see the ratings based on other users' experience. Can't say I've added too much of my own opinions on either, but when I do see my own, it's interesting to see how much of my opinion has changed and what hasn't.

When I first found you about a decade ago, you kept my budding interest in manga alive. Back then there were so many manga, and their titles were so often given in Japanese only, that I wouldn't have been able to find anything good in the vast number of them without you!
Still true after all these years.

Now that we are talking about improvements. Is it possible to make the cover preview script an official part of the site? ItΒ΄s really shiny and chrome and makes the site come alive. There is enough real estate on the right sidebar for links to user scripts (that arenΒ΄t about piracy).
