Plot/Story
In the very beginning of the Story constuction worker Shirou is walking down a sidestreet when he hears a thud behind him and turns around to find that a naked young women is lying on the street. He takes her to his place and quickly the strangly unharmed and energetic girl has a profound impact on Shirou. After spending some time together with the girl Lucy Shirou comes home to find half of his friends slaughterd and a stanger in his appartment and no trace of Lucy. The stranger whom he thinks is the murderer saves him from a bomb explosion dying in the process. Shirou is completly confused about what has happend and sets out to find Lucy. Doing this he uncovers inconsistencies and holes about his past and starts meeting old friends he can't remember.
Characters
Shirou-Main Character, male, about 30. Down to earth constuction worker spending his nights drinking with his rag tag group of friends.Story evolves around him picking together the remnants of his forgotten past as he searches for Lucy.
Lucy- Mysterious girl that seems to have apperead from nowhere and dissapears just as suddenly.
Shirou's Old Friends- are introduced as the Story evolves. Won't list any to avoid spoiling.
Because most of the characters are introduced in the course of the story and the series is relativly short ( 4 volumes ), many characters do not have the time to form a truely independent and detailed self. I feel, that till the end of the manga the reader didn't really get to know them. For this reason i give 3 of 5 for characters.
Drawing Style
Rough with clearly visible strokes. Not at all traditional manga style. Can't think of anything similar. I gave the art a three because there are few details and it isn't eye catching. However, it underlines the story very well giving the world and the characters a very uncomic and serious appearance.
Enjoyment
The unforeseeable story line and the thick mysteries surrounding the chacters combined with quick, bloody and rich action scenes make Dead End a great read. The story moves along quickly and before you know it you'll be stareing at the last page of book four wondering what happend. 5/5
Overall
5/5, one of my personal all time favorites. For everyone looking for suspense, mystery, action and romance, but is tired of overused storylines or superhero/shonen plots.
good analysis. However, dead end is not for me. It's art is not my ideal kind. The facial features are exaggerated.
In the beginning there's a naked young girl lying in front my eyes...
Detailed and thorough, what I like in a review.
Mind you, Dead End is not for every one. Mystery, Action and a big laddle of Horror poured on. If you expect light-hearted or just pure romance, think carefully before picking up this manga. (if you must know, it's not my favourite manga: read one time and that's it).
