Plot/Story
KATSU! is one of Adachi's latest series and as always he doesn't dissappoint. It tells the story of a boy (Satoyama Katsuki) and a girl (Mizutani Katsuki) who have both just started high school. Satoyama has a crush on Mizutani and because of this takes up boxing to get closer to her. As the story develops, in classic Adachi fashion, the characters undergo trying events to their possible relationship. The staple of Adachi works is present with simplicity and real actions taking place. He keeps the boxing scenes very well done and the interactions very true.

Characters
Adachi's biggest drawing point is always the characters. Throughout the series you become very attached to the main characters of Satoyama and Mizutani and inevitably root for them. They both show simplicity and because of this, their emotions in the moment speak more words than Adachi usually writes in a panel. The expressions and interactions between all of them adds the dynamic to the regular every day feeling of the characters. Satoyama does not stand out among any characters of series I have read when it comes to abilities or charisma, but throughout the whole series you begin to grow almost a friendship for him. The same seems to go for all the other characters, they grow on you and quickly become very personal. It makes me sad to see this series come to an end, but all good things must.

Drawing Style
Adachi never really stands out in his drawing style, in another review of another Adachi work, the author says: "Adachi, through simple art, slow pace, and everyday anecdotes is able to portray the feelings of his characters with perfection through a style very simple. This may be the reason of the perfection of such an accomplishment: the more complicated something becomes, the more distant it seems, the less natural." In this I wholeheartedly agree. The simplicity and basic portrayal of the story makes it all so easy to understand what is going on within the characters, or at least what you feel is going on.

Enjoyment
For those who enjoy regular life type mangas, this is for you. There is very little action, there are a few boxing matches but they are not drawn out and much of what goes on in the matches is about the relationships and thoughts the characters are going through. It offers the comedy and the romance. The feeling you get from each character is not far from everyday people. You can see others in it and that draws you closer. The beauty and enjoyment of the series is in how much you feel for each of the characters and how much you hope for the best in each of their lives.

Overall
Overall, this series is a great introduction to Adachi's work. It is nothing super special when it comes to "typical manga". The activities and actions in this are very close to everyday activities and yet so far away. You yearn for something like what these characters experience, that true happiness. It does not come across as too much or too little, Adachi has a talent for putting in just the right amount of content to make it sufficient. I highly recommend this series as it is beautiful in an everyday sense versus most of today's mangas.
