Ayu Mayu is an Ecchi, Romantic, Comedy that sadly contains every Rom/Com cliché imaginable but it makes it work, with some incredibly whacky comedy and nicely done romance.

Plot/Story
The story is about a boy (Yousuke) who has finally reunited with his long lost sister but the problem is that there seems to be 2 girls (Ayu & Mayu) at the home where his sister is meant to be and he cannot determine which one is his sister. So the story is basically about Yousuke trying to find out which one is his real sister. If you’ve seen or read something like Onegai Twins then you’ll certainly know that this manga’s story is anything but original. Nonetheless it doesn’t stop it being fun to read. Each chapter is pretty much episodic but thankfully the story actually progresses nicely, even though it relies too much on clichés.

Characters
The characters are somewhat standard for this manga and other than the unimportant supporting characters; the 3 main ones are pretty good. Yousuke the main character looks and acts like most of the male protagonist found in most ecchi rom/coms and is usually at the butt of many jokes and misfortunes, but his appealing attitude is a huge merit. Ayu is your standard tsundere whose annoying at first but she’ll soon grow on you, whereas Mayu is honest and kind hearted and basically the complete opposite of Ayu. These 3 characters develop so much in such a short period, which helps the story move along nicely.

Drawing Style
For this kind of manga I must admit that the artwork is pretty good, with a fair bit of detail put into the character design, even though some of the praise can go towards today’s technology (Photoshop). The ecchi is nicely done and so were the numerous comedy moments, but the environments were pretty plain. This all improves as the manga progresses.

Overall/Enjoyment
Overall Ayu Mayu turned out to be a pretty enjoyable Ecchi, Rom/Com manga, with plenty if hilarious moments. Nevertheless any experienced manga reader would easily be able to determine at least 3 different manga that this mangaka recycled some material from (Ichigo 100%, Love Hina, Onegai Twins, etc.). This is only the case for the 1st volume, as the story undergoes some improvements and contains plenty of plot twist. So if your feeling in the mood for an ecchi rom/com then check out this manga, as you may end up enjoying it.
