Plot/Story
This story revolves around Yamato Danjou, a student who has just joined an at-one-time all girls school. Being as the ratio of guys to girls is around 1:9, not to mention the girls' incredibly condescending attitute to the guys, Danjou finds it hard to make a mark for himself at this school. The whimpy guys there aren't much of a help either. Finally, Danjou takes it among himself to found a boxing club, being the boxing club champion from his hometown afterall. However, the head of the four queens of Mabu high school, Magomi Maki, is going to try to make it as difficult as possible for him. It turns out tho that Maki ends up paying more attention to Yamato than other guys around... why is this? Could she hold some secret that not even Yamato knows about?
Characters
The characters are okay at first glance... there hasn't really been any development from my point of view. One of the things that didn't really make sense to me was the sudden change in attitude which occured between volumes 2-3 of the girls towards the guys in the class. It seemed to me to be rather sudden. Maybe I missed something?
Drawing Style
I love the drawing style. Its very simple to read and Maki-chan is just so cute !! ;-) Anyway... This being my first manga.. it was kinda difficult for me to distinguish between all the different girls and guys at times... but I think I'm getting more used to it.
Enjoyment
Definitly enjoying so far... I've read all of it in the past two days so... something about it has kept my interest. Of course... I'm the typa guy that goes for these kinds of stories I guess...
Overall
There were some things that didn't really flow for me... as in the translations for the specific group's version's I read felt off or not edited very well--I eventually got used to this however. Also, the two main characters seem to end up together way too much... There are some love trianglish things going on, and its like no one gets jealous enough to make sure the person they're after doesn't go with someone they suspect as trying to steal that person away... I dunno. Just seemed kinda awkward. Overall tho, it has been an interesting read so far and I will not hesitate to read more in the future.
Unanimous agreement on the sudden changes then. Changes come in here and then. It's normal in stories like these, so nothing surprising there. Besides, although having a constant mood throughout the manga makes it consistent, it becomes boring after a while. One would expect seriousness and humor to be mixed in manga involving romance, anyway, especially for cases such as long lost memories. We might even see a bit of angst later. In truth, however, it seems that the handling of love triangles and crushes seemed a little slipshod. It seemed that development for most girls (excluding Yura and the girl in the band[forgot her name, sorry about that]) was rather shallow. There might be more development for them, seeing that the manga's probably nowhere near its end yet (thankfully). I won't harbour too much hope though...After all, the main characters are still Yamato and Maki. As for attitude changes...I think it's pretty normal, but the changes should have came at several chapters or one volume later, I suppose. It was just too sudden. Other than that, the mix of genres and slow and steady development of some relationships especially Yamato and Maki's has a rather nice and good pace. Mellow romances with less fantasy seem to hit the spot well for this one. I'll recommend it despite its few shortcomings.
Indeed I found it weird about the sudden character change. There's no gradual progression, but instead a 180-turn. I think it's the biggest fault of this manga. The characters' consistency went out of the window pretty early too, especially for Maki.
you didn't miss anything about the girls' sudden change of attitude towards the boys... Maybe the author forgot something...? She seemed to have forgotten her characters' personalities. At the beginning, Mogami was supposed to be headstrong, but now she looks like a damsel is distress (ie: she can beat up lots of bad boys, yet she's afraid of burglars... :S). What about Danjou? At the first volumes, he acted like a guy who is rude but soft towards his family and friends. Now he's the perfect nice boy and everybody loves him. And, like you said, nobody is trying to do a move in the love relationships (well...maybe a kiss...lame attempt). I have also noticed the atmosphere in the story changed from a bit serious to happy light-hearted life.That's what i don't like about the story : the characters and the atmosphere suddenly changed for no reason. The plot IS promising though. Still, it's just my opinion, you know. Maybe others will like it too (I'm reading it because I want to know the past :S). I guess I'm too attracted to dark stories 😛
