Plot/Story
Naota is your typical High School loser...with a few "specific" problems. His hot-shot, baseball legend brother left to seek riches in the U.S., his dad is a pervert, his grandfather is almost senile, and his brother's ditzy ex-grilfriend won't leave him alone.wink,wink. The coarse of young Naota's life takes a turn for the completely insane, when the infamous "Vespa Girl" (a girl from outer space who was supposedly sent to prevent the Earth from being destroyed by Alien robots) begins living under the same roof as him...along with th the faithful robot servant Canti. Where exactly do these alien robots come from, however? For starters...Naota's forehead! It look as if chaos, destruction, and an inevitable case of the wierd is about to run through the dull town that Naota has grown tired of.
Characters
Naota: A young boy who's just plain bored with his plain and uneventful neighborhood, and really annoyed with the minor "setbacks" in his life. Little does he know, he has a strange and frankly awesome series of events ahead of him.
Mamimi: She's Naoata's brother's ex-girlfriend. Ever since her ex left Japan, she's been really clingy toward Naota. Most people prefer to call her dumb, but it would appear that she's actually spiraling toward insanity.
Haruko: An impish (yet oddly attractive) alien girl who is referred to as the vicous "Vespa Girl" due to her brutal and mysterious reputation. She eventually worms her way into Naota's household (apparantly as the maid...or nanny...or whatever...). It kind of makes you wonder though. Who is this girl, what is she really here for, and why does she keep hitting Naota in the head with a baseball bat?
Ther are a few other characters, but I kinda don't have the time to mention them all. Every character was really funny in their own way...but I had one problem. Two of the more eccentric and humerous characters from the anime version (Federal Agent Amuro and his female Assisstant) were only given a single-panel cameo appearance, and I have only 3 words that can really display my feelings about that...Oh, Come On!!!
Drawing Style
At first glance the artwork seem undetailed and not really interesting, but as you continue to read the manga, I came to realize that it was corky, fluent and really enjoyable. It stands out and it really starts to grow on you.
Enjoyment
The manga basically aims toward the top of the wierd factor (as an anime and manga-addict, I find that cause very admirable). Most consumer will be happy to know that it succceeds with flying colors, although I don't think Everyone will enjoy reading it over-and-over again in attemp to completely understand the story.
Overall Even if this manga is really short and doesn't actually exceed it's anime counter-part on any levels, it's still a good read, especially for the mere $20 it costs to get both volumes.
