Plot/Story

Kei Kusanagi is a 1st-year high school student with a rare disease. It causes him to go into a coma-like state which keeps him from aging. So while he is actually 18, he appears to be only 15. No one but his uncle (who's also his doctor) and aunt know his secret and they are his guardians. He witnesses a UFO land in the local lake and a beautiful woman appear on the shore. This woman is now his new homeroom sensei and she knows he knows her true identity. After some incidents where the two are caught in compromising (but innocent) situations, Kei's uncle claims the two are secretly married. Thus sensei and student really do get married to protect both of their secrets. Now, Kei and Mizuho-sensei must keep their marriage a secret from the other students while trying to form the foundation for a good relationship.

Characters

Kei Kusanagi -- Forced to marry his new alien sensei, Kei must overcome his own fears regarding their new relationship. His unique illness has a root cause which Kei must face if he is able to move forward with his new life.

Mizuho Kazami -- She the new homeroom sensei for Kei's class, having been assigned to Earth as an observer. She takes her marriage with Kei very seriously and wants to help him get through his problems, his fears, and illness. She will do whatever it takes for Kei, even if it costs her everything.

Koishi Herikawa -- She is one of Kei's classmates and in his circle of friends. She's in love with Kei and can't understand why he won't allow her to get closer to him.

Ichigo Morino -- She is another person in Kei's circle of friends. She makes it her business to solve the problems of her friends and she works hard to get Kai and Koishi together. She has a secret of her own which allows her to get closer to Kei.

Matugo Shido -- He's another in the circle of friends who's the least developed. He has no female love-interest and when Mizuho-sensei arrives, he decides she is the woman for him.

Hyosuke Magumo -- He's the 2nd male in the circle of friends and the loudest in the group. He is very hyper and on the surface, nothing but a slacker. However, he does have a goal in his life and will go the extra mile to achieve it.

Kaede Misumi -- She is the final member of the circle of friends. She is quiet but fun and she's in love with Hyosuke.

Drawing Style

Shizuru Hayashiya-sensei's art style didn't do a lot for me. His character designs aren't ugly, but are not done in a way that I really liked. To many closeups for my tastes. The artist isn't detail-oriented, so don't expect a lot of beauty art. The drawings serve their purpose, but little more.

Enjoyment

Compared to the anime, I didn't enjoy this manga as much. There are only two volumes, so the manga actually cuts out things that were in the anime. There's no further information in this manga to further explore characters and that was disappointing. Still, the base story of a couple learning to love each other while dealing with the normal problems in a marriage and the non-normal problems such as having aliens as in-laws is one I like.

Overall

Unless you are a hardcore "Onegai Teacher" fan, there really isn't any reason to pick this up. If you've never seen the anime, this will give you an idea of what the anime is about, but the anime is a much better title.
