Plot/Story

You know you're a genius. Everybody who knows you knows that. But nobody understands what you actually want to do. And it's even more frustrating when you have to stuck in a place that limited your creativity, unable to spread your wings because you're phobic of plane and ships. That's exactly how Shinichi Chiaki is. Born from a famous pianist father and a rich music lover mother, all Chiaki wants is to become a conductor, despite his high ability in piano and violin.

After a series of unfortunate events, Chiaki finds himself involved with a hentai junior in piano major at Momogaoka Music Academy named Megumi Noda, a.k.a Nodame, who turns out to be his neighbour. Nodame is a contradiction of Chiaki. Nodame is all gross with rubbish covers up her apartment, while Chiaki loves everything to be clean and in order. Though it seems she brings nothing but trouble into Chiaki's life, unconscious to Chiaki, Nodame actually gives a positive influence on him, and helps him to break through the barrier which is more than just phobic of plane and ships. Later on, the two together pursue their dream on the classical music world.

Characters

Two main characters, and lots of supporting. But I remember all their names, and easily describe them. Strong and unique personality on each character is the reason. Not to mention almost each of them have their own special crazy behavior that make you can't stop laughing. But below I will only introduce the two main characters.

Megumi Noda a.k.a Nodame --- A piano major student who couldn't do sight reading play. Nodame's biggest asset is her ears. Only by listening once, she could play it, though not exactly precisely. But it's a play that is able to touch deep inside those who listen to it. She's definitely a genius, but in a way that most people probably unaware of at first.

Shinichi Chiaki --- Prince Chiaki is his nickname. An elite student at Momogaoka who is so passionate on becoming a conductor. A genius, handsome, and rich; with a selfish and cold attitude. A good guy actually, just lacks of ability in socialize, so people tends to misunderstand him.

Drawing Style

I love the artwork, though t's not the most beautiful I've ever seen. I even found it a bit weird at first. But it's original. I love how she presents Nodame's unique world through imaginary scenes. And the way she presents the classical music is definitely a big note. She puts every details, and draws the perfect expression on the characters, for you to feel the glorious air of classical music.

Enjoyment

I reread it over and over again, and I still laugh. Still enjoying it. It has drama, sweet romance, and humor. And you'll enjoy the classical music elements as much as the story.

Overall

It's hard to find a sweet romance manga without many loving scene. You won't find Nodame and Chiaki declaring their love each second or kissing all the time. The feelings is more to emotion than physical. Their relationship is... weird, but touching and sweet and... just hilarious. . And the great thing about this manga, it's not even mainly about romance. It's about classical music, and the people in it. Nodame and Chiaki develop their relationship through music.

After you read this manga, you would probably smile thinking of Nodame and Chiaki, and their unusual relationship. Or you'd probably wanting to know more about the classical music, wanting to buy cds of all composers whose compositions are played by Chiaki, Nodame, and the rest of the characters.

Go read it, and it'll probably be one of your favorite all time manga.

You got it!
People who rate the manga "the worst" just can't read the blurb... honestly. If they could they would have rated it much better.

I like the anime better too. Why? Because it has all the music of course wink

Characterization and humour is very well done indeed.

I think this is a manga that'll make people want to know more about classical music and classical music fans falling deeper in love with it. At first it seems like just hilarious fun with musical knowledge, but I was surprised at how realistic each character's actions and feelings get later on.

And I definitely agree with you xD! Awsome manga!
