Shakespeare?
(4 posts, 2251 views) Posted: over 9 years ago by RockoDyne in Domestic na Kanojo
That may have been a bit of a hyperbolic comment. Most of what the mangaka has done is wrap soap opera drama in a shonen package... Actually, the Shakespeare comparison might not be that inaccurate. I suppose they aren't that far apart in terms of what they are doing with...
Why do some people dislike vegans?
(95 posts, 12777 views) Posted: over 9 years ago by RockoDyne in Chatter Box
It's called cognitive dissonance. It turns out that when your body and mind know better than you do, it tends to lead to unhealthy consequences. Add to that an uncanny valley effect where you know it's not meat and it ends up suffering because of it. Substitutes are rarel...

Nothing wrong with not wanting to eat animals because they're cute. Or communes, for that matter. You don't have to understand other people's values (or the activity of their amygdalas) to acknowledge that they have the right to have them - don't expect to...
Why do some people dislike vegans?
(95 posts, 12777 views) Posted: over 9 years ago by RockoDyne in Chatter Box
If the reason you are vegan is for health, I don't think most people will think negatively of you. I've got a sister who has conned a few of the more heavyset family members into going vegan. I would attribute it more about being conscious of what they are eating, but it ...

For real time combat, I would go with chrono trigger, tales of games, and star ocean games. They still have random combat, but the combat itself is interesting. I'll specifically highlight tales of phantasia, tales of symphonia, and tales of the abyss. The tales of series...

Ethics of human transmutation
(15 posts, 5113 views) Posted: over 9 years ago by RockoDyne in Hagane no Renkinjutsushi
What I find humorous is how any schmuck can figure out Ed and Al performed human transmutation, but it then becomes a story point that there aren't many people that have actually performed human transmutation. Sooo, how is it common knowledge what it does to people?

As for...
Manga for 15th Birthday (Action/ Science-fiction/ Mecha)

Well, Knights of Cydonia could work if you find the manga. The animation bugs the hell out of me in the anime.

If you want to dig up an old anime, you might want to check out nadesico (martian successor nadesico). It's a bit on the random side at times but it should be fin...

I wouldn't go with Air Gear. While I really enjoyed the beginning it has some things he'd probably not like. It also goes completely crazy after a while since it's Oh! Great, after all.

Pretending it got canceled around volume 15 is a valid idea in my book. A...

I caught an episode, and all it did was make me want to read Tsukihime again. It's got the whole "what kind of monster am I becoming" conflict going for it.

Maybe Hoshi no Samidare? It might start as a little dark but its darkness is overall overshadowed by the comedy, and it ends on the idealistic side anyway. Superpowers, action, comedy and contemporary world, I think it could work.

Bad idea. Don't start so...

At that age, bleach and deathnote was enough to get me hooked. Code Geass would probably be a better option though. Maybe Air Gear. I doubt FMA would be an issue.

Chances are if you gave him attack on titan, you'll probably have to pick his brain out of the ceiling.

Also, Noblesse, Magi, and Drifters fit. The last one isn't frequently updated though.

I've been meaning to get into drifters eventually.

As for the others, I had been reading magi but dropped it and I had read a good chunk of noblesse but it didn't really ...

You might as well have asked which were the bad ones and worked backwards. If this thread lasts long enough, just about every web comic that is being translated will be recommended. I don't think I've read one that didn't have at least some merit.
Name this manga - it has gore, sci-fi, cyborgs and possibly transhumanism.?

Are you absolutely sure it wasn't school shock? Because I'm almost positive all of that is in it.

Might want to check out the Scott Pilgrim comics/movie.
Otherwise, the only thing coming to mind is the VN Deardrops. I never got far into it, but it wasn't a bad band story.

I feel like I should know at least ten other stories that are all amazing masterpieces, but ...

So, for those who don't know about the hero's journey, the master of two worlds stage is traditionally when the hero comes back home, finds trouble, and settles it mostly by being OP.

Since manga has a habit of making all resolutions be three chapters long, I won't hold m...
