I really enjoyed the characters and how they meshed with each other even when they didn't get along instead of just bitch fighting and being nasty, which I've came across in other stories. The story didn't have direction or much plot so it was rather slice of life like. The art isn't great,but bearable. The reason why this gets a 7 is the ending!!!! What was the ending Ugh.... It felt all crammed into one chapter and was not conclusive.... Sigh. That was a big disappointment....

Starting with the positives: Karakuri Odette is an enjoyable read. The female protagonist is very likable, and is what makes this series truely shine. For the most part, it makes you want to continue reading, and only becomes draggy somewhere in the middle. Nonetheless, Karakuri is simple, light hearted read. If you are looking for a shoujo with a serious romance and solid plot, then I'd suggest avoiding this series.

The negatives: My main issue with Karakuri, is obvious lack of direction it exhibits. Suzuki Julietta seems to be overly ambitious, and wastes time introducing a vast array of characters and plot lines , without being able to decide to focus on a few and fully develop them. For example, it felt as though she couldn't decide on which male character as Odette's main love interest. This is a real shame, because Karakuri is driven by it's cast, and there are a few great characters who had a lot of potential, and could have benefited from more background story development, such as the professor. Instead, Suzuki introduces even more characters very late in the story who I didn't care for (Shirayuki, Travis/Grace ) The ending was also very unsatisfactory on my end- I felt like absolutely nothing was properly tied up.

I'd give this series a C+/B-. I remember reading it for the first time back when you could get new tokyopop titles at Borders bookstores, ha ha! Suzuki's drawings are a little rough in chapter one, but they improve. She says outright, and it is very clear that this story was simply meant to be a oneshot, and when she was told to make it into a series, she kind of made it up as she went along, which probably explains the "not" ending.
Of Odette's five potential love interests: Chris, Asao, Yukimura, Travis, and the professor (ok, the professor is more like her "father"),

The art at the beginning is okay and gets a little better. For all that's worth, for what this manga intends to be, it could be a Masterpiece. I think this was the best story I've read till now about a robot trying to be human and it doesn't get too philosophical while doing it like other works out there, which makes it fresh and less intimidating.
It really makes wonder if a robot with emotions can exist and if it did, would it be like this. The only downside to me, is that it was a little too short and the characters interactions with each other could be more lasting. For example Asao was pretty much a protagonist and still he didn't appear as much time he should even though he was so much important to the MC which made the author draw a little vague ending.
Still this was one of the best character development I've seen till now, which it's a really incredible feet to make a person think like that. This manga made me remember that film with Robin Williams where he was a robot trying to be human, just less depressing. To be honest you'll laugh a lot at the really small details of this work and the best is that you'll look forward to read the next chapter.
You should read, if you want a reason to, think of this as something different like a change of pace or if you are bored of the standard mangas, it's really worth it.

It had a great start but didn't follow through very well. Ending was disappointing. Art was cool.

this is a happy, light manga about a girl discovering herself. odette doesnt need to be a robot, an alien, time traveller, god etc could also stand in as someone who discover herself thus my usual irritation about artificial intelligence is swept away. it is also because her character is so charming, with the help of various smiling characters that this character driven manga make me smile the whole way. the only drawback of this manga is that it is too good but it is too short, i would love to journey together with her some more.

Story: 7/10 (pretty good concept, light-hearted w/ equal parts humor and heartwarming but don't expect closure in the end)
Art: 5/10 (flat but decent)
Characters: 9.5/10 (Unexpectedly great, esp. for the genre. Main character Odette is especially good)
Cliche Factor: 3/10 w/ 10 as extremely cliche (Some re-hashed jokes and the usual school scenarios, but characters were not stereotypical. Very refreshing read.)

This one tells a very likeable story about a robot girl trying to blend into a mostly human world. There is not much drama (for the most part) and the characters shown play well together, allthough, sometimes their character traits do not seem very plausible and just have to be taken as a given.

Talking of things that might have been better... art! Especially all the boys/men look just sooooo gay (I am not talking about sexual preferencesces here...) - all of them are suuuuperslender, painfully overstyled and look just so plain silly (forget your frigging hair stylists and find yourself some barbers)... it makes you wanna laugh... or puke... well, both would work, I guess. I mean, hey, even the assumedly bad bad deliquent guy looks like he couldn't harm a fly except for drowning it while spilling his Latte or crushing it with his iPad (which he had to lay on a table as it was too heavy for his skinny skinny arms).

But don't get the wrong idea - the art might annoy a bit, still, the story really is a nice one and worth reading!

This is a very good read but the ending is very unsatisfactory... there were so many things i wanted to read about i felt the story ended because the author felt its time to end it.. all in all thats not a bad thing but still its disappointing not being able to see Odette's life long quests ending i have a complaint about the art too, you can't tell the difference between robot and human emotions on the faces.. all humans also feel like robots because of this. if this was only true for Odette then it wouldn't have been a problem but even failure robots have as many emotions on their faces as humans (i'm sure you can make a good case even with this minor points but i felt as if this was mangaka's one of the first works so she tried to get away with less)
I feel like i only said bad things while its true there are some minor problems with presentation overall this manga is a good story you can read while relaxing. i laughed with Odette, i felt sad with her, i felt happy with her. If you want to spend a relaxing afternoon while reading something don't hesitate to pick this one up. You won't feel disappointed for 34 chapters (i still think it ended prematurely lol)

The way this manga was done can truly be called a masterpiece. The characters are compelling and there isn't one chapter that one, as a reader, can't help but feel the heart of their actions. This manga is just so wonderful. I was really satisfied with the ending, as it shows how one's journey doesn't stop with the protagonist finding love or some other fate.
