After traveling to America & Japan, Petshop of Horrors finally arrives in France. No, this is where the story of Count D begins. Passage hen tells the encounters of Q chan's clients. If you look above it was serialized in Mugentou, which is the Japanese branch of Canadian Harlequin. So unlike the other petshop of horror series, it is written in Harlequin fashion. That is, hatred will turn into love; women will pursue their dreams to make them real or take revenge for wrongdoing.
Nonetheless, Matsuri sensei mixes mythology, history & culture with romance. She introduces Napoleon' s unknown descendent, French poet Apollinaire, painter Laurencin, Parisian Catacombs & uses legend of Gevaudan as well as Andersen's mermaid. She gave her own interpretation of the mermaid legend and I like this one best.
I enjoyed passage hen more than Shin petshop of horrors. Like Leon & Wu-Fei, there is the Baron who always accompanies Count in his trips. But one does not need prior knowledge of related series to read this. As Petshop of Horrors deals with the revelation of human frailties, most of the stories are bittersweet . But Passage hen mostly ends in a Harlequin manner & it's nice to have this change.
