Really entertaining

This manga is amazing. It's easy to compare it to Gintama since they both involve three groups of people assisting others mixed in with various "random" events, but that's where the differences end. Sket Dance has a cast of characters who easily stand on their own and the issues they deal with when things get serious are surprisingly complex for a gag manga. This series has laughter, tears, romance, and sometimes even death. All of this is set to a school backdrop and provides tons of entertainment. Coupled with the recent anime adaption, this manga is seriously going places and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys comedy/slice of life.

Heaps of praise above aside, like any gag manga, sometimes the gags fall flat. Usually the manga is very funny, but when it does fail, it fails hard. Those times where it falls flat though are thankfully far and few in between, but I'd be remiss if I didn't at least mention that it does happen.

My suggestion is to read until you get to the first serious arc
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It involves why Switch talks through a computer
and if you still don't enjoy the series after that, then you probably never will. I was on the fence until I read that particular part and then realized that I had found something special.

This is one of those rare manga that actually has me laughing out loud. The characters are great, as is the art and especially the humor. This series has high potential, and I think it's too bad that it doesn't get all too much recognition. I have no idea why anyone would give it a low score.

it's a gag manga, well honestly i found it boring in chapter 1-10 but when i caould finally get a grip from the characters i found it truly funny..
it's a light reading, but sometimes you will find drama from every character's past back those past make a back up for more gag in future (example: the twins lol)
i dont understand why pebble hate it so much, i found it funny and hilarous, good enough for entertainment.. especially for those who enjoys comedy genre, i'd love to recommend this.. the chemistry between main characters is well balance too, even though the story is to cliche (like the idealistic friendship, a touching story about high school, etc) at least it doesnt too much (which sometimes make me sick in some other mangas) and the comedy, just like i said before.. is hilarious!!
what i really hope is this series wont drop because the senpais has gone now lol, and in the arc (in their third year) will be more fun than before

This is my favorite ongoing Shounen Jump series, with brilliant humor, a great cast, clever plots and insightful dramatic arcs. It feels like it has lost some freshness in these last volumes, but it's still one of the best shounen series around IMHO.

Awesome in its own right

I can't express how many different levels this manga hits. Its funny, serious, endearing, and clever. I don't think I've ever found a manga that made me respect the author so much. I don't think that you can really get a good grasp on the series in 2 chapters but after a few you should see it for what it is. I, personally, can't see why you wouldn't like it but...

I don't read Gintama but people say its just like it. From the reasons they give all I can say is that similar yes but not a rip off. I think its pretty amazing that this is surviving in a mainly battle driven magazine.

The characters are diverse and the chapters are equally as scattered. Even so I can say that this manga has given me numerous reasons to reread it. So many good chapters but all in their own right.
The only thing I can see that might discourage people is the length. The chapters might feel long because it is heavily dialogue driven. I admit that put me off in the beginning but the more endearing chapters pull you along well enough.

So, if you are starting off and are having trouble getting into it skip a chapter or two till you find one that gets you; chances are there is one for you.

I just hope it grows in popularity so we can get caught up with the releases. Thank you to the Scanulators that are doing it anyway.

I absolutely love it!!!! It's so funny! I litterally get back from class and read a chapter or two and it makes me so happy. I don't know how many times I started cracking up over this. I love all the random references to things. It's so refreshing, I never really know what's going to happen.

High School Life

The perfect way to describe this manga.

I'll make it short:
This series is very dear to me, I was still in high school when I first read this and that was a very long time ago. It's a comedy manga with the drama with friends and family but kept it simple and not heavily dramatic which is good.

I didn't cry on my HS Graduation but SERIUOSLY cried on the last chapter of Sket Dance. It really felt like I graduate from HS. While others may seems to take the ending as Open ended, it make sense for me, because it's another beginning.

I guess my opinion is rather very personal.

Sket Dance is Awesome.

10/10

This is like Gintama in a high school setting:
--We have three kids (2 boys, 1 girl) who form a club (the sket-dan), which takes on odd jobs for students and teachers around the school.
--The girl is crazy violent and skilled in fighting.
--One of the boy wears glasses. (A handsomer/cooler version of Shinpachi)
--The leader has curly hair.
--The sket-dan's rival group is the student council, which is kinda like the Shinsegumi in this manga.
--The std. council vice-president is arch-rival to our main character.
--The std. council secretary is a verbally abusive sadist.
--Heck, even the council president looks kinda like Kondo, except he's smarter.
--And throughout the manga, they either reference or do parodies of other shounen manga (bleach, naruto, one piece, etc.), kinda like... you guessed it! Gintama!

(If you read/watch Gintama at all, you'd understand the similarities I'm describing)

Anyway, if you like Gintama, chances are you're gonna find this manga pretty awesome. It's stupidly funny, refreshingly witty, and fun as all heck. Now I'm just waiting for someone to animate this so I can enjoy it on the big screen.

Definitely Worth it

It took me a while to get into it. I started to read it a few times over the years but could never get into it. Recently I had to deal with an internet outtage so I decided to finally just pick it up and read through. For some reason, the beginning didn't really catch my interest, but when I started to learn more about the characters and their dynamics, how they ended up in such a weird trio, AND A SUPER SECRET ABOUT THE MAIN CHARACTER THAT MADE MY HEART ACHE AND FAMILY FEELS HIT THE TOP OF THE METER, I got really into it.

Right now, after blasting through this over the last few days, I'm loving it. I'd definitely give it an 8 or 9 rating.

Gintama is similar to Sket Dance in which I started to read it but I haven't gotten deep into it yet. It's next on my list I suppose. But from what I can see, the humor of Sket Dance is different from Gintama, it's more attuned to my tastes. But I won't give up on Gintama!

A good story

A good manga or any type of story by no means wheather it be the plot is simple or a three year old can understand it makes no difference. For instance Dr. suess, one can't say that his storys arent one of a kind along with being interesting to all ages for it's uses of things kids unerstand as well as the level of literary inventiveness it achieves. As a manga asuming that the artwork is good, as is the case that's already say.. worth half it's rating. to make it nearly a 9, which is what i say it is. seeing that even if the plot is fairly simple yet none the less interesting as well as emotionally enthralling, able to evoke empathy from it's readers as well as other emotions that are definably apparent. conveying an emotion you can reach through diferent aspects of a story one becomes attatched drawn in. Being able to to do so at a level readers can relate to, Sket Dance doesn't fall short in any sense of a good story. Being able to win an award if you havn't come to be able to understand atleast the level of work it is credited despite a diference in taste and preference it's quality you can still appreciate as a manga or story, if you failed to recognize all these things then you failed to either read enough of this work or you simply lack the means to understand Manga or perhaps all literature and the depth reachable. unable to grasp past the shallow.
