The first volume was a bit confusing and not really good, but the story picked up pace and coherence after 2nd volume and was attention catching, I read the whole story in one day. The summary makes it sound like it's a sugary & girly love story of "choose your husband", but it's actually more about politics and relationships between all characters. There is romance, yes, but it feels secondary to the politics and intrigues. Recommend!

It was worth my time.

I am glad I was introduced to this story. I read the manga up until the latest chapter that was translated and watched the entire anime. As the translations were only up to the prologue, this review is mainly based on the anime.

Though I really liked the extremely unique plot, I agree with the comment below mine that Kajika makes some rash decisions that the audience might find irritating. However, considering her personality and lineage, her decisions are not surprising at all. The male lead himself concludes that Kajika is selfish and aggressive (in the anime, last episode). Of course, she is also shown to be a compassionate and caring person through how she psychologically saves the other suitors. I suppose Kajika's actions, both impulsive and caring in her own way, is what makes her a more realistic and three-dimensional character. It's what makes her so different from typical heroines who are often perfect in terms of personality, pretty (even though they're considered not in the story) and always so emotionally dependent on others to the extreme. Kajika, on the other hand, is thankfully not one of these types of heroines that are so often found in shojo mangas. Besides, because of her rash decisions, Kajika comes to a major realization that becomes the turning point of her life and the story itself.

In my opinion, Kajika's "destiny" not influencing the outcome as expected was what made it different from other stories. For once, the protagonist does not become the superhero who saves the day. However, for those who were looking forward to that, it is understandable why this might be disappointing.

Aside from this, the confusing part about Lee Leng's dilemma near the end of the story can be explained.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
When Lee Leng tells Zao that he chooses Kajika to be his wife, Zao thinks it is okay. However, Lee Leng states that he has to stop being the leader of the Huang Group since protecting Kajika will prevent him from being an effective leader. As a result, Zao threatens Kajika's life to force Lee Leng to not marry her. To make sure that Kajika will no longer make Lee Leng want to abdicate his leadership, Zao then demands Lee Leng to marry his fiancé. By doing so, Lee Leng will no longer be able to marry Kajika, protect her as a husband would, and disregard his position as the leader of the Huang family.

Nonetheless, I do wonder what will happen in the future for the two main characters - especially the guy. What will they do once they get bored of their life of sunshine and beaches...? Theirs would truly be a carefree life. Lucky them.

This following paragraph is just my personal thoughts on minor things that irritated me, so do not read if you don't feel like it.
The thing that has been nagging me is that the main male character's handsome face turned not-so-handsome in the last scenes when he reunites with you-know-who. I SERIOUSLY DISLIKE it! It totally ruined the whole mood and tone for that scene! Why did they draw him like that?! It really didn't match his persona. AND they just had to use that ill-suited face for so many excruciating seconds!

Anyway, this didn't destroy the whole story since it was only a few seconds, so don't let it stop you from enjoying this beautiful story!

When I first read this series, I got to like chapter 2 or 3 before being bored and not liking the way the story was going. However, it turns out all I got to was the prologue, and the real story was not until a few chapters later! So if this applies to you, plow on through the whole of volume 1 before deciding how you feel about the story.

Overall, I did like/enjoy this story, until the latter half at least. The eye candy didn't hurt. bigrazz The few chapters that were translated were intriguing and with the rave reviews of everyone below about the anime, I immediately watched all the episodes. The set up was great, and I was prepared for something really good, but the latter half killed it for me. Things turned really illogical and annoying and I really finished it all (er, skimmed to the end) because of all the time I invested already.

Comments involving spoilers below.

However, I do have some major qualms about the series. Firstly, I was really disappointed by Najika's character. At first, she seemed like a charismatic, non-cookie cutter strong female lead. While that didn't necessarily change, she became more and more annoying as the series went on. She always had to have "her way", usually involving some dangerous situation people want to protect her from. Then, after making a huge fuss, getting her way and charging into said situations, she would prove herself incompetent to handle them. Or, she would merely "be there" but other people would be solving the problems, and I could not see the point of her being there at all. Some annoying situations:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
She always wants to rush into Raginei, then does is nothing special. i.e. her conveying a message or disguising as a tailor to "rescue" someone (but really other people do the rescuing and she just tags along).
Also, other women/girls in this series are not portrayed very well. They range from being squeamish and silly, to being manipulative and superficial.

Also, the biggest "secret" or plot device of the story, Kajika's "destiny," was really disappointing as well. I put parenthesis because
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
it comes out early in the story, and everyone around Kajika gradually finds out except her, and it's not really a destiny because she doesn't go and fulfill it.
I mean it could have been made more interesting but it wasn't...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Kajika is first in line for the throne. But she never rises to the occasion. The whole thing kind of puzzled me, because she ended up learning about it from someone random... but isn't this kind of important? Wouldn't the logical thing be for her father to let her know, and let her decide whether she wants to take her rightful place as heir... instead of playing some husband game to find the one who will "protect" her at all costs...? Ugh. I mean she doesn't HAVE to fulfill her destiny, this is no Red River or Basara, but the series kept putting her out there as someone amazing with natural ability and potentially destined for greatness... then it just didn't happen.

And the moment my inner fangirl was waiting the whole series for was terrible...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Kiss w/ Lee Leng made no sense. I can't say for the manga but for the anime, it just made no sense to me. The dialogue (or lack thereof) made it seem weird and out of nowhere.
Then it turns worse...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Lee Leng decides to step down as leader of the Huangs so he can "protect" Kajika full time. Then his righthand man, Zao, says he could marry Kajika as leader and that would be a favorable match for both family. Lee Leng refuses. Then Zao says he will assassinate Kajika if Lee does not go home and marry this girl in the Huang family. A distraught Lee Leng agrees to marry the other girl and says he will never see Kajika again.
Um, what? No, I did not skip anything, this is exactly what happened and it just left me confused. No logic at all. Ugh.

All in all, 10/10 for the first half of the story, and 5/10 for the second half when things went downhill. I guess it's a good read if you don't think about anything.

Ah...one of my faves. Didnt read the manga coz there was an anime. i was so hooked. The plot is amazing, the characters, and not to mention Kajika isn't your typical 'worthless-stupid-weak-lovestruck' shojo heroine biggrin

I really REALLY love this series!! I watched 3 episodes and after that, I was hooked. Sorry this is more of an anime review, but this wasn't finished scanlating, so I watched the anime to get the rest of the story. Probably the love interests were a big weird at first, but it zooms in on how Kaijika help them with their problems and how her feelings of caring reach them.

I find myself giggling like a fangirl (which I usually don't do....) and I would recommend it to all!! Please don't let the weird characters stop you from continuing this series. This series deals a lot of politics fights (which I don't usually like, but this held on my interest) and the character development was definitely two thumbs up. d(^_^)b

Spoiler (highlight to view)
I hate to tell you, but she grew up on a remote island since she was 2 years old and if you read carefully you would have figured out that she hasn't been among "modern civilisation" for very long. Which means the "remote island" - believes still stick. She truly thinks he's Mustafa... see 2nd episode: "Mustafa's death" flashback. It sounds mightily weird to us, but we also mostly believe in the things we grew up with, don't we?

Well... the author likes to star emotionally cold heroes (or at least they appear that way)... if you don't like or at least are open-minded about it don't read it^^

Well a bit too much "Bishie omg <3" but sometimes I enjoy a drama like that^.^

For the most part this show is confusing me with how the girl responds both emotionally and sensationally her potential spouses. The only character that seems to make any since is the male lead, her confidant and caretaker. I am watching the anime as much as I can but I am finding that I hate the characters. I enjoyed it up until her first potential spouse showed up. I guess when you hate all the so called love interests then you probably will hate the show. I will not be reading the manga and I doubt I will be finishing the show. I thought I would give it a second chance after I stopped watching it when the second episode came out. I was looking forward to her getting a brain and dropping the silver haired piece of garbage and going onto some worth while guys. I watched further and am getting more and more disappointed with her choices.

I really like the story although its not finished yet but it has a good twist to it. I think kajika is going to end up marrying Liren because obviously she likes him and vise versa. The 3 fiances her father Harry was refering to is really Liren, Eugene and Carl. Not Lumati bec. Kajika and Lumati have the same grandfather. But for sure yet because there is still 12 more episodes to be released and a lot if things can happen in those episodes. Anyway I'm so happy there going to end up together because I really like Liren for her not only is he mature he's cute too for an anime.hehe I love there chemistry. No wonder in the opening it seems like Lumati and Kajika are close thats bec. they are related. At first I thought Lumati is the guy shes going to marry but after I saw episode 11 boy was I wrong. Its clear in episode 12 Liren is right both Lumati and Kajika are cousins.

I started to read it prompted by the rather unusual design, and I ended up loving the political intrigue at the centre of the story. Less interested in the husband-hunt game, but it was interestingly developed. Most central characters are richly described and have accurate personalities, even if some of them might irritate or even disgust some readers ^^. It's a pity nobody wants to scanlate, much less license, this title ^^'.
