Holy Crap! 11/10

Wow, just wow.

Don't let the fluff and slow start fool you, this is by far one of the best mangas I have ever read. The sheer amount of character depth, lore, and beautiful artwork just sucks you in. The plot is becoming increasingly complex and very tightly woven, and the most recent chapters have ended on cliffhangers that come out of nowhere and leave you begging for more. Or rather, in my case, gasping and screaming in outrage that you have to wait another month to find out what happens. I can't believe this is Yamazaki Kore's first series. It has an excellent balance of action, drama, and character development that few other stories manage to achieve. Seriously, read this thing, it's amazing.

They had better make a full anime series out of this or else I will be so angry.

Captivated from the 1st chapter

[Review after reading 3 chapters. Will update again after ~20 chapters for a better review]

I didn't think too much of this series until I actually started reading it. From the first chapter I was quite engrossed. The female lead (Chise) is a person who's got nothing to live for. She was at a point where she didn't care for life or death. The male lead (Ellias) is a bit of a mystery. Not a whole lot is said, other than that he is a sorceror, and that he seems to be quite well respected (This is partially an inferrence).

In the past 3 chapters, the author has been unveiling a fascinating world which co-exists with the one we all know. It's introduced a few different species of creatures (won't spoil what), and a couple of characters who may play large roles in the story once it begins to unfurl in earnest.

Characters

Can't comment on the characters, since I don't expect much depth in 3 chapters (but I feel from what I've read that the mangaka has the ability and the desire to give some real depth to the characters. A little was given to Chise already.)

Art

Art so far has been good. It's not as good as I've seen in some manga (Shingeki no Kyoujin) but is well above average in my experience. It does well to give life to the characters and the environment, but I do feel a little something is missing at the same time.

Story

Main plot of the story has been set, so we know what this is headed towards. Chapter 3 laid down some of the roadworks for the future. The main story of chapter 3 made me feel like this should be a seinen instead of shounen, but oh well. There's plenty of series that I'm surprised with being shounen already so I won't dwell on that. Won't comment too much, since I've only read 3 chapters, and it would be premature (and impossible) to say much about how well the story is being done. There are comedic moments in the story, which I think are done well.

Hmm.. Did I miss something..? Oh that's right! Ellias is a demon/spirit/monster thing?? Now I've read plenty of shounen-romance manga, so I'm pretty confident when I say, not many have one of the main characters being some kind of beastly demon looking thing. Sure there's one monstergirl haremy type manga, ones with vampires, demons/demon lords, etc etc. But they all still have some semblence of looking human (except the monstergirls I guess..). I find it refreshing to see this beauty and the beast style characterization. And since chapter 2 killed off my whole "This is gonna be a guy in a mask, isn't it?" fear, I'm enjoying the fresh coupling (Even if it's a fake sense of freshness, I'll take it).

To be edited in the future [Assuming it doesn't get dropped for some unfathomable reason]

Awesome but shonen?

Fascinating art, characters and plot. I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes magical beings and otherworldly characters.

Though it is beyond me why this is shounen. There is some complex feelings and text no common kid would be willing to contemplate and I think if anything it should be seinen or josei. Probably the art? Oh well the world of manga went a long way from shonen like Dragon Ball to today's shonen I guess.

i am really amazed of how well this story is written. It is different, appealing, and has a interest aspect of a story. I do not see any reason to give this anything below a 10 until the story start being bad.

The chapters take time to release but not worth down grading the score. I recommend this to any audience that love fantasy story with a little twist of everything else exempt sci-fi

It has been a long time since I have gone WOW this is amazing for a manga.

Beautiful artwork, engaging story, all rolled into a dark fantasy world. I seem to be attracted to stories that explore the idea of what "family" truly means. I would recommend this to anyone who likes something beyond the norm in manga.

I've followed this manga since 2016 and all I can say is it's amazing, it still keeps me intrigued evertime a new chapter is updated and I just have had so much fun reading it, one thing that I hate about mangas is that they often get boring over time and loose their meaning, this manga seems to be still one of my favorites and is really worth your time!

easily in my top 5. The character development going on in both Chise and Elias is like nothing I've ever encountered before in a manga. The whole setting is intriguing and delightful, and there never fails to be at least one scene PER CHAPTER that takes my breath away.
I'm a cheap person who likes my manga free, but Mahou Tsukai no Yome is one of the very, very few works that i've ever purchased. And you'd better believe i bought every volume i could get my grubby little hands on.

This series is great. I haven't read something that moved me so much, had intrigued me so much, in years. I'm a cheapskate but I'll buy all the volumes from this manga and the OVA when it comes out so I can properly support the author of this magnificent work.

Its been a while since I was so taken by a fantasy manga by the first chapter, especially something so shoujo-ish. Despite the shounen tag, the story seems to lean more to josei or a more mature shoujo- main female lead Chise isn't weepy and tsundere depsite her background (for now? lol), characters don't turn overly dramatic for no reason etc . The setting and plot leans heavily towards 'old world' magic and there's lots of folklore refs that fans of ye olde grimm tales would love. Also the male lead has a goat skull/wendigo appearance with a three piece suit. If that doesn't bring all the mori girls to the yard....

The artwork reminds me strongly of Emma/Bride Story/Gisele Alain. Seriously though, every chapter is a page turner and the story told so nicely that I just could not stop reading til the latest chapter (13 atm). Definitely recommend for fans of magical/fantasy work who are looking for a fresh look at the usual fairytale genre.

Despite of how few the number of the chapters released, I can't hold back my feeling to comment for this amazing series. Yeah, I only read as far as 9 chapters, but the story, characters, n the art has already captivated me... in a unique way...

This series reminds me to Mushishi. An old-fashioned-magic setting where spiritual things exist in the deep of nature, not in some high tech machine. And the magic user doesn't use the magic for an epic battle or such, but to understand the law of "nature" and another spiritual sense... and yes, it succeeded to intrigue my curiosity and keep me wondering the "new world" law and setting

So, in brief, It's amazing series (for now), and I hope someone will change this shounen tag into seinen...
