Garbage

Yep, it's garbage with extremely boring humor, just like hinamatsuri. I guess I shouldn't have expected anything from this author since he really has no sense of humor whatsoever.

Now, I do get some people seems to think his stuff is funny. Sure, but that doesn't change that it's waste in my eyes. It's not that I've not given it a fair try. I've tried to go back and read hinamatsuri at least 10 times over the years, I've also tried to watch the anime, and it's so damn boring I can't get anywhere before dropping it. There's no attempt at comedy, the mood is dreary and the story is just shallow and bad overall. Why did I keep on trying? Yeah, because hinamatsuri gets such high praise from quite a lot of people, it must be doing something good, right? Maybe I'll one day suddenly enjoy that garbage, right? But nah, after so many tries over several years, I just have to give up and file it as "unreadable crap".

Amusing

I don't really think the inter-episode connections are "unnecessary"-- they're the major selling point of what would otherwise have been a pretty standard collection of short stories. That being said, the individual oneshots are all comical, clever and fairly unique; it's difficult to guess how any of them will turn out.

The characters are also full of quirky goodness, which makes the situations they end up in that much more unpredictable. Definitely worth a read if you're looking for something on the more unusual end of the spectrum of what manga has to offer.

If you like the humor in the mangaka's other work, Hinamatsuri, you'll enjoy this, too.

The few-page connections built between the episodic one-shots are mostly funny, odd and can be even interesting, but since they're not really needed to hold the story together, they need to be entertaining on their own, or else blandness explodes right into your face.

But that's pretty minor, so this is a solid 9.
