A bottomless pit of a vampire who's anemic. Funny. Touya, was my fave, but I must admit I wasn't really a fan of the art in the first two volumes. Thank goodness it got better! I also liked it up to the last chapter.. then it got dry. but I'm happy with the ending :-)

Evolving art
Rating: 8.0 / 10.0

At first I was highly unimpressed by the art-- just not my preference. Well, I was quite confused when a few chapters in we went from this scratchy technique to this bold shaded technique. After doing a double take (comparing the first chapter to that current chapter) I was finally convinced that I wasn't going crazy. Surprising-- but very happy that it happened. Later chapters are much more beautifully drawn.

I gave the story an 8, because it felt like when the drawing techniques changed so did some of the attitudes of the characters. Like they did some kind of overhaul on the art and the personalities. At first they were both a little annoying and depressing, but as the story evolved I kind of feel like they became unnaturally a little less annoying. Otherwise, good and unique story!

P.S. - Not sure which scanlation group did the first three chapters, but some of the names are mixed up. It gets a bit confusing because typically the first three chapters are where you establish who is who. Satsuki gets called Touya, etc. It's not really hard to figure out, but might throw you off a little.

One of the best manga ever

The story begins with Touya a vampire who is grappling with a 1000 year lifespan as an outsider, a monster, and Chiyuki a sickly human girl who is grappling with her impending death at the age of 17. The question that is asked throughout the series is if Touya is willing to make Chiyuki his partner and have her suffer through immortality as a vampire, never truly living as a human again and suffering through pain that can be worse than death itself. To Chiyuki, she wants to live and experience all life has to offer with Touya beside her. The differences in their circumstances shape the way they approach the concept of a 1000 year lifespan.

Interesting look at immortality and love. Beautiful story and it's amazing to watch it unfold. So happy this was continued after a 10 year hiatus because the ending is amazing!

i absolutely loved this manga in its beginnings. lovveedd. very simple and moving love story between a reluctant vampire and a vibrant girl with a strong will to live. it felt more slice of life and had a slow pace suited for a manga focusing on their day-to-day lives and interactions.

once the manga came out of hiatus, the tone changed a bit, which was welcome at first. the plot began to move, but soon it became rushed and disorganized. i still can't quite understand the ending; it seems like entire chapters of backstory and exposition are missing. the ending is quite rushed and expected, so i'm a little disappointed that the tone shifted to something serious so quickly. i liked the quirky little humor that seemed to come naturally when the characters were just mucking around.

nonetheless it was a nice manga. i hope to see more from hatori-sensei biggrin

I started reading because ofthe drawing style. It was really simple and different from others. Now It is just like any other shoujo art... It's a shame...

It only get points for the story line, that I liked very much.

10 year break
Rating: 10.0 / 10.0

After the 10 year break, not only has the art improved but the story line has as well. I started reading the first few chapters, up to like, 7, and gave up because of the art (lmao). Then I picked it up again from Chapter 11 where it was resumed and it was a hell lot better. So for those who can't stand the art at the beginning etc, even if you read from Chapter 11 (after the hiatus) you won't be missing anything and it's honestly, in my opinion, 10 times better than the very beginning of the series. (Obviously, since Bisco improved over her Ouran days).

The characters are a lot better, and so is the storyline and pacing. The art........ I can't even begin, it's gorgeous.

Great for the read, but hard for the eyes

When I saw this, I wanted to read it because of the fact that it was by Hatori Bisco and because the teaser summary was appealing. Well, I was pretty disappointed when I read this, because of the mediocre drawings and the Mary Sue heroine, who was a huge turnoff for me. Once I finished Volume 1, I stopped reading this series because I just couldn't stand the drawings and the grossly perfect heroine. Sorry, guys, but if you were looking for a manga of equal caliber of Ouran, you are going to be sorely disappointed by this work. However, if you are going to have a friend read out the dialogue and narration to you, without looking at the pictures, this is for you.

Everything's fine except the heroine

Chiyuki is such a martyr. Does she have a character flaw? From what I can tell, no. She is a flawless human being. And that is incredibly aggravating. That aside, this is a decent shoujo series. It's cliched, it can get boring, but it's reasonably funny and has some good moments. A lot of people compare this to Ouran (because the mangaka abandoned this in favor of Ouran), and I think it was a wise decision because the heroine in this manga is just unbearably good.
That being said, if you're really into supernatural romance and don't mind a goody two shoes heroine, this is a good series to check out.

A good vampire manga to read.

Well, now that Host club is done, I hope she picks this one back up. Out of all the vampire genre I've read, this one had proven to be the most unique and haven't kill the storyplot nor the characters (yet). Well, I hope she'll never do so. *nervous laugh*

A sweet story of a sick girl and a vampire that hates blood; there's bond to be some comical scenes and a sweet possible twist in the future. I can't say much, but you have to give this series a try to see for yourself if you like it or not. I can promise you that you won't be disappointed. Unless you don't like reading hiatus series, which I can't blame you since you'll probably throw yourself to the ground, crying for more chapters.

Can't wait

I love this mangaka's works and I can't wait for it to be picked up again by the artist. I don't mean that I wish for Ouran High School Host Club to end because I really love that series, but I'm kind of hoping that she can start working on this as well and give us a couple of chapters now and again. Maybe too much wishful thinking?
