A very nice collection of shoujo-ai oneshots -- simple and sweet, and more often than not, at least marginally realistic in that most of the couples did not end up together.

Itoshi no Maid-sama and Yozora no Ouji to Asayake no Hime were not to my liking since they were typical schoolgirl lesbian stories which did not match the overall mood of the compilation. But Giraffes' Necks are Too Long, while in the same vein, had very fun characters and a hilarious, refreshing ending, so I could not bring myself to dislike it.

The rest of the short stories, especially The Crow Woman, Flowers Forming a Parabola and Her Cat Wards off My Bad Dreams, were rather touching and affecting. They were just the right length to portray how a fleeting relationship might have a lasting effect on a person...but by the time she realizes it, it is too late.

As mentioned by akari_mizunashi, the artwork does not compliment the plot very well. I felt that most of these stories could have done with a mature style of illustration to convey their seriousness more effectively. Still, I definitely wouldn't let that put me off picking up this little volume. It's certainly worth the time if the usual "happily ever after"s bore you.

The short stories in Yozora no Ouji to Asayake no Hime are better than a lot of the saccharine fluff that fills that pages of Yuri Hime. They're cute and conventional without being too cliche, and some are surprisingly thoughtful. It's Hakamada's art style that makes everything seem stale. If she could move out of the amateurish superdeformed, she could be considered good. For now she's just another second-rate yuri artist.
